Love this series! I am so sad to see the end. Kestrel is one of my favorite protagonists. The love between Arin and Kestrel is so real and genuine. I am so glad there was no silly triangle.
5/5 ⭐️

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
"As he spoke, it occurred to her that maybe he, too, felt like two people, that maybe everybody does, and that it's not a question of whether one's damaged, but of how easily or not that damage is seen."
Well, as hard as I tried to drag it out I have reached the conclusion of a series that will stay with me. If you have not pre-ordered this book or started this series, you need to do so now. I remember finishing The Winner's Curse and walking around in a fog with a story that would just not leave my head. Then I finished The Winner's Crime and was so devastated that Rutkoski could pull such moves like that on us readers. Then, finally I somehow got lucky enough to read The Winner's Kiss . It is such a beautiful and strong finale and I was so incredibly pleased. Rutkoski’s prose is so engaging and poetic, which causes you to truly feel the atmosphere, one of the reasons that caused me to love this series so much.
This series has blended characters and plot splendidly, both driving the story evenly and heightening your emotions. I was so nervous at how everything was going to culminate because seriously, so much happens in this book! It's nonstop twists and war depictions and has you on the edge of your seat causing you to take up Arin’s religion and pray to his god of death asking that he will bestow his blessing upon these characters. First and foremost, I’m so incredibly in love with Arin & Kestrel’s story. It’s hard for me to say too much without spoiling anything, but I also can’t find the right words to describe how wonderful, gut-wrenching and satisfying it was to ship these characters. Kestrel is a character who is dear to my heart and I was amazed how far Rutkoski took her journey in this series, but especially in this particular installment. I’ve admired her tenacity and cunning and connected with her emotions in many ways. I don’t have the right words to do my fictional crush Arin justice except that I hope you all enjoy his arc and melt for him just as much as I did. We also spend more time getting to know a lot of other characters that we have been previously introduced to in this novel that just adds to the enjoyment of this read.
Overall, this is a series that should not be missed and a magnificent final installment that I know all who have loved this series will truly appreciate.

5 Stars
Definitely my favourite of the three. It usually takes me a while to get through audiobooks but I flew through this one - I was hooked the whole way through!
The Winner's Kiss is the perfect combination of loveable morally grey characters, expert plotting and incredibly intense moments. Kestrel is quite easily one of my favourite female characters of all time with her Sherlockian mind and wonderful character arc, though it's got to the point I love all the main characters in this series - Roshar definitely cemented himself as another of my favourite characters in this. Fortunately this book isn't Arin is a Dumbass vol.3 because he's actually pretty smart in this one, while still being super emotional in a way that was more endearing this time than annoying. I loved all the relationships in the story too, especially the familial ones.
Ultimately this book left me wanting more in the best way. I'm so happy I left this series on my shelves for literal years as it means I only have to wait a few weeks for The Midnight Lie, which I will undoubtedly dive right into as soon as I get my hands on the thing. I'm super hyped!

I am officially IN LOVE with this series! I’m so sad it’s over!
Fine.
You know what.
The series wins. I grudgingly admit that this book was good, great even. I still hold to my opinion that the first books failed at what the series was trying to be: a highly political fantasy about war and conquest. It was mired down by poor characterization of the main characters and the intense focus on the romance instead of the revolution. Rutkoski failed to convince me that Kestrel is a brilliant military strategist because all her actions tell me she’s the opposite. And I’m still not entirely sure how Arin’s rebellion ever managed to get off the ground, considering how little he ever appeared to be doing, and constantly disappears into situations in which he might be killed.
Why the hell would I read this book at all if I disliked the other two? Because while I rolled my eyes through the first book and half of the second, the ending of book 2 was so epic and heart-wrenching that I could not physically make myself stay away. It was that good.
This book... takes things to another level. Rutkoski deconstructs her characters, makes them rethink everything they know, how they see each other, how they see the world... how they value everything they believe in. They have certainly evolved from complete idiots with contradictory characterization.
Finally, I saw the brilliant strategist in Kestrel as she plots, manages to stay a step ahead of her father, and provide the rebellion with much needed guidance it needs to win the war. While Arin finally reflects a true leader of a rebellion (he still does a couple of really dumb things though), and plays the god-touched savior of his people. We finally see them at their best, doing what they were created to do. They learn to trust each other again, they angst, they agonize, they accept and stop lying to each other. There is a bit of a discussion about the power play and the history - and that baggage that comes with it - between them. However, I was still rather... surprised is not the right word, but the only one I can think of right now, how easily those two were willing to throw out everything they worked and suffered for, just to be together.
The plot moves at a very satisfying pace. Again, Rutkoski is deconstructing things, her characters have to think back, think over, think again. There's a lot of self-reflection happening at the same time as the final character development is achieved. There is a good amount of action as well, the battle scenes felt very realistic, the battle tactics fascinating.
The ending was a good one. I think most people will be very satisfied with how Rutkoski wraps things up.
Perhaps, one day I will revisit this series and have a completely different opinion about the first two books than I do now. I'll give it that chance to change my mind thanks to this book. And if I really liked this book, then I think the fans of this series definitely will as well.

WHY DID THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN?! (talking about the start of the book)
awww, I really loved this book, my favourite of the month and the best way to end the year in my opinion.
while I was reading this book, I had a family barbecue so I did get interrupted a bit but, that's okay because I finished it!! It was an amazing ending to the story even though my friends from the bookclub decided to stress me out during the last 20% of the book and tell me it is so traumatising.
It was great, I loved it, highly recommend and I cannot wait to read the spin off duology!!
