This is a great introduction to trangenderism for younger kids. Based on the real life of Jazz Jennings who is a very public male-to-female child. The message here is simple: "Being different is okay. What's important is that I'm happy with who I am." This book is great for kids experiencing gender issues as well as their friends, siblings, and classmates. The illustrations are bold and colorful. There is a page at the back about purple rainbow foundation. I wish there was another page with resources for parents about transgenderism.
Phenomenal artwork, a great story, I found this to be told really well and would love to have this on a bookshelf for my future children
This is an excellent book to use with children or families to increase education (awareness) for transgendered youth.
I know this is a children’s book, but I’ve made it a personal goal to read as many banned books as possible. Because nobody tells me what to do OR read.
This book was so brilliantly simple. Jazz was born with a girl brain and a boy body. Her parents were confused at first, but eventually supported Jazz wholeheartedly. This is a very sweet and easy-to-understand book explaining what transgender means.

This is a challenged book and I read it a few times because it was very good. This book is about Jazz a famous transgender youth. It is a very interesting story about how she was a boy as a young child but always felt most comfortable in girl clothing and accessories. He knew that he was a she for so long and he felt uncomfortable when her mother and father made her dress as a boy in public places. They felt like they needed to be politically correct and did not quite fully understand that their "son" was actually their daughter. I enjoyed this book because it is important to help children that are in that situation so that they can better understand themselves and that they are not alone. I believe the main reason children do not come out early is because they are scared and uncomfortable with themselves.
This was so simply an unapologetically explained in picture book form. I read with one of my 8 year olds, who loved it. There were a couple of questions but then, total acceptance. Later that day, I heard her explaining it to her twin sister. Glad to have a book to start this conversation with my girls so they can be more accepting as they grow.
A lot of people are commenting on how the book portrays gender identity as binary. But I think that's what a lot of kids pick up on when they judge themselves and other children. Others comment that the child is not white, so why make her white? However, race and ethnicity is also not a binary concept so why are you imposing that here? I appreciate that this book exists for both trans and cis children because being able to identify as the main character in a book is important and the book can teach cis children what it means that their sibling, their friend or their classmate is trans.
LOVE how this book helps kids (& adults) understand the term 'transgender' from a kid's perspective.
Happy #pride!
