I learned in this book that Phryne Fisher is a January baby and that makes her 100x better. Not like she was ever less than absolutely amazing, mind you.
Miss Fisher's mystery series is definitely a comfort read at this point. I absolutely loved this book since I started it in 2022 and this book is set in the beginning of 1929.

This was an enjoyable read bring together a mix of characters all struggling to get through 1929 life as best they can.

I had no idea that this book was 17th in the series. No wonder people were mentioned and situations referred to that made little sense to me. I'm still at the beach on vacation so I thought that a mystery set in Melbourne, Australia in January (their summer)where it was hot and the main characters all went swimming every day would be just the ticket. The story is set in 1929 and the main character, the Hon. Phryne Fisher, is asked to find out from a distraught mother whether her son, Augustine Manifold, committed suicide or was murdered. Along the way, she also tries to find the lost illegitimate child (now an adult of about 60) of a recently deceased wealthy women which has the woman's family all in an uproar because of the impact that any revelation can make on their inheritance. Some fairly feral people show up in this book as well as some fascinating characters. I think that I will be checking out some of the other offerings in the series. My fascination with the interwar period and the depression of the 20th century, apparently, also extends to its impact in Australia. A fun beach read.
