Getting way out there now. Last one also started going that way. Gabriel you will be missed.
3.5 stars
4 star read til the last 10% & then it ended with a whimper, not a bang. This is still one of my favourite series & it was great to catch up with Gabriel & his crew. Always an intelligent & intricate plot full of compelling characters.

This is my favourite spy series and this must be around the 20th so far. This time it is around the Vatican and the rise of anti-Semitics in Europe. As always a good entertaining read.
Another superb book in the series, but a little heavy on the politics.
Fast paced. Will definitely read more in this series. It's like The DaVinci Code. Great summer read!
Daniel Silva is one of my favourite authors, so the change in tone and style of this book was very disappointing. I was expecting a spy thriller and instead ended up with a locked room mystery with some Dan Brown conspiracy thrown in. And the mystical element was just a bizarre twist for a Gabriel Allon novel. It’s hard to say whether I would have enjoyed the book more if it WASN’T a Gabriel Allon novel - probably not. I am always uneasy when fiction writers extrapolate on Christianity, quoting biblical scholars while at the same time calling their book a work of fiction. I was looking for a serious, but entertaining read, and this did not hit the mark for me.
I love Daniel Silva. The research he puts into his books is nothing short of extraordinary. While this book does not have the "body count" that his other Gabriel Allon books usually have, it was still a great read. (If you are Catholic...it may bum you out a bit. :) But still excellent!)
Pretty good read but the ending is a little too Disney-esq
Been waiting for this work for a while.
I think the storyline was expected in the sense that the death of a pope would stir some sort of investigation and putting Allon in action. The background was also interesting. What I thought could have been developed more was the history and the storyline. I felt in some ways it was too straightforward.
Nevertheless, a good read.
