Let's fall in love with everything, everyday.

So much healing! So much pain. But so much healing. And not easy healing; healing via work. This was excellent. (I felt the last page and a half or so was a bit much, but that's okay, really.)

where do I start with this book. holy hell. it somehow manages to be so intense and so tender at the same time. a gut punch and also a warm hug. these characters. oh my god these characters. the relationship between zach and rafael is, without a single doubt, one of the sweetest connections I have ever stumbled upon in fiction. slight spoilers, but the ending they got? i cried. I cried so much. i cried probably even more than i cried at the end of ari and dante. in general this is just absolutely incredible. it's a masterful and empathetic yet non-romanticizing look at rehab and addiction and recovery. it doesn't shy away from darkness, but it doesn't make it the main focus, either. i love zach's voice, love how it has echoes of the classic teenager sáenz voice. he's just so easy to sympathize with, and watching his journey is truly, truly something else. it was beautiful to witness. the way the characters interacted, the way all their arcs played out, the way everything is nuanced and complex and happy endings aren't always happy endings for certain characters, or what we expect. and all those heart wrenching backstories. god. it's just all handled with such care, but still examined so unabashedly. truly have never read anything like it

this book was a really comprehensive look at addiction and recovery. Zach’s internal dialogue was really engaging and moving. I also liked that all of the characters he meets are so full and well developed. A hope filled book about overcoming obstacles that seem insurmountable.

Once you are able to ignore every time the guy says tears me up, you can really enjoy the book.
It's a little depressing in the beginning but it gets better.
