fuck trump and fuck all trump supporters
too bad because i enjoyed the writing — the book has funny moments and is overall good and interesting, but i just can’t wrap my head around this ending ??? he’s a trump supporter ??? he forces his black democrat woke girlfriend to watch a trump speech ??? wtf ????????

It takes a lot for me to dnf a book. I love books, I loves reading them and I have immense respect for those who write them...and then there was this book.

First let me say, I went into this book blind.... I did not read the blurb and I did not read the reviews on Goodreads. I try really hard to not let others opinions of books affect my view of the book. There will be books I like that you don't etc...

I stopped reading this book at 25%. And then I came to Goodreads to see the reviews for this book. Holy cow!! I totally get why people are upset... I am upset because once I did read the blurb I realized this was supposed to be a romance

When I first read the premise of this book I was taken aback, but I was interested in seeing how this storyline was executed. I received an ARC from the publisher and I was really impressed with this debut. I look forward to Rabess' next.

Let me start by saying this isn't a romance so much as a story about identity, coming of age, and relationships at large: how Jess views herself, her father, friends, and Josh. Jess meets Josh for the first time when Barack Obama wins the US presidency, and the story ends on Trump's inauguration day. 2016 seems like a lifetime ago and 2008 at least 3, but Rabess captures it perfectly: the hope for something better, the shock and fear that came later, and through it all is Jess who just like many in real life is trying to figure it all out.

For those who are concerned about the content, I encourage you to check out the book from your local library before reviewing it.

I enjoyed reading but I’m confused about the message. I’m assuming it’s a complex story about two characters, which I liked and it deffo got me thinking.

But when you boil it down it’s essentially a love story with a trump supporter? I don’t wanna see that being romanticised please!!!!!
