This is split between the good and the bad. The good is I liked the setting, the pacing, and the mystery in general. The bad is the main character is a very hateable billionaire who throws money at all her problems. The disability is good for representation but it did not make me pull her from the "eat the rich" menu. Also, the dog is cute but can we not have the big reveal be "aha, that guy didn't think my dog was cute, he must be the murderer!" ?

I tried to read this book last year and couldn't get into it. I swapped to the audiobook and tried again this year, and I quite enjoyed it once the first murder occurred and the story picked up its pace. I liked the setting of a cruise ship on the way to Mars, and I especially enjoyed the epilogue chapter about the science behind the story. I liked seeing a disabled main character work with her PTSD and back injury, and I loved the service dog in the story. I also really liked this version of the future where pronouns are a default part of introductions, and a variety of pronouns is accepted as the standard of society. I also enjoyed all of the cocktail recipes that were included in PDF with the audiobook (as well as at the start of every chapter).
It's cool that the "romance" part of the book was taken up with the main character and her spouse on their honeymoon, so it was an established relationship romance rather than trying to shoehorn in a love story along with the mystery adventure taking place on the ship. Part of the tension of the plot stressed me out, personally, and I wasn't a huge fan of that.
