I loved this book so much. It’s a fantastic, engaging, space mystery with a Film Noir feel.

I liked so much of this book, but it was also hard to have a hero who fell into the brilliant and deserving billionaire trope, though it was nice to see that trope handed to a woman. Some of the mystery felt messy and there were parts that felt confusing or only half explained.

This was a page turner but it felt like there were too many characters and complications to keep track of. Mystery might not be my genre--I loved this author's other books and always enjoy her world building so I couldn't help but wonder if my issues with this book were considered features of the genre rather than bugs. Anyway, I did appreciate getting to ride with an MC with a chronic pain condition and learned a lot about service animals!

This was recommended to me as a “comfort read”, so I was rather surprised how high the tension was. It’s a murder mystery, but there were very few lulls in the tension, and those that were there were extremely short. Regardless, I greatly enjoyed this book. I did not figure out who the real murderer was before the big reveal, which is always nice, and there was a good balance of humor.

It was sometimes hard to track the dialog and it could have been a bit more clue focused but it was great!

Lovely mystery, very Christie in space (including the ways in which the protagonist was kind of horrible!). I could have used one or two fewer teachable moments (and these people should seriously cut down on drinking when medicating), but I had so much fun, and if Kowal makes it a series, she has my attention.
