I think I'm over Ann Cleeves, at least temporarily. I have been alternating between Shetland and Vera Stanhope books, and they all follow a very similar formula. I'm not against that at all. However, the mystery is always what I consider to be unsolvable by the reader. I like twists and turns, but I also like to have some clues to solve the mystery.

This book is #3 in the Shetland series ... I just love all of them ... with each book, I am packing to go to Shetland.

A wonderful mystery -- I didn't know till it was time to know.

I think this is the best of the Jimmy Perez novels so far, but, as with the Vera Stanhope stories, the television series seems to be stronger than the books. Very unusual. This one at least has an ending which is both a surprise and could have been worked out by the reader. Cleeves usually withholds something critical. She does a similar thing here--lets us know that Perez finds something out that we don't know, but we COULD have figured it out anyway. Not my favorite mystery writer by any means, but I'll probably read the next one.
