It was a cute holiday read. There are so many characters in the series that it was becoming a bit confusing to keep everyone straight. There was some predictability to the writing, which I generally expect from this read.

Review originally published at The Bookwyrm's Hoard.

Christmas on 4th Street is another heartwarming holiday romance set in Susan Mallery's fictional but charming town of Fool's Gold. I really liked Noelle, the spunky, determined heroine who has more reason than most to relish every second of her life. Gabriel is a typical Mallery hero: sexy and fundamentally decent but complex, with painful past experiences that have left him commitment-phobic (not unlike a number of other now-happily-married Fool's Gold men.) The chemistry between the two is unmistakable, and several times I wanted to shake some sense into Gabriel, whose issues were the only thing standing in the way of a happy ending.

There's plenty of Christmas spirit, but much of the book felt very reminiscent of A Fool's Gold Christmas, from the hero's "I don't do long-term" to his eventual coming to his senses. I'd recommend it to fans of Mallery's Fool's Gold series and others looking for a pleasing if somewhat predictable holiday romance.

FTC disclosure: I received a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

A lovely Christmas-themed visit to Fools Gold. And longer than you would expect given that it's a x.5 in the series. I enjoyed a lot

Loved the book itself, the cover is so shiny and the snowflakes on the inside flap are cool. Didn't feel the chemistry between Noelle and Gabriel but it was still a sweet Christmas romance

Another wonderful book in the Fool’s Gold series. Still so wonderful to read, only thing that irks me in this series is the endings..the hero getting scared and running away, only to come to his senses and returning to declare their everlasting love, almost every book in this series follow this pattern. But other then that I still enjoy the stories and they still manage to make me laugh, sometimes out loud, or make me shed a tear.

Holiday Romance Book Bingo; book with holiday lights on the cover.

Okay, this was a pretty solid Mallery read for me overall. Not her best, but solid. The ending kind of blew it for me.
Weddings are romantic, but...seriously? Dude, you just ran away from her after proposing to her because you thought she was DYING because you could handle short term and wanted to take care of her. PERHAPS WE SHOULD WAIT AND TRY TO GET INTO A HEALTHIER MINDSET KIDS.

I wanted Christmas cheese...and I got cheese. But it was the cheesiest cheese I ever did cheese.

I mean, I read it all and read it (fairly) quick. I even got the romantic chest tingly feeling that I love from Christmas Hallmark movies (which doesnt make them good.. probably more a testament to the time of year). Terrible dialogue. Clunky sentences. Fade to black love scenes (no fair!). Overly dramatic character backstories. NOT TO MENTION completely unrealistic redemption arc for the dudes' dad.

The characters fall in love, change their outlook on life, heal their emotional traumas and get married in the time from thanksgiving to Christmas. Yeah, yeah there was a bride and groom on the cover but I hoped it would either be her bridesmaid dress, or they would have got married in an epilogue a year or two later.

My grinch-y heart grew three sizes reading this book.

I guess now I'm going to have to go back and read the previous twelve books in this series because the small Northern California town of Fool's Gold has me CHARMED. At the very least I need to know more about Mayor Martha. I'm a little bewitched by her! All of the strong friendships between the women of this town were so wonderful, and I was surprised to find myself enchanted by Noelle's shop, The Christmas Attic, as I usually avoid seasonal shops like the plague.
