A gripping story, tightly wound with entertaining characters in impossible situations.

THE REYES INCIDENT takes the reader on a modern journey through an isolated bunker infested with murderous sirens. Part procedural cop drama, part found-footage horror movie gone wrong, THE REYES INCIDENT explores all facets of human nature, with a heavy focus on fear and love. The characters relationships are realistic and taut with actual emotion. I found it easy to root for a few of them or feel disdain for others.

The horror was palpable, and the gore not overly-explained. A fun read especially if to introduce oneself to the author before diving into more or her work.

The book follows a cop interviewing a woman about the death of her friends at supposedly the hands of killer mermaids. I went into this book pretty excited about it but quickly lost that. It was written in a way that no scene felt like it had time to breath. Character motivations were sparse, mostly just whatever the scene called for. I didn't find anyone very believable as characters.

Overall just not a book I enjoyed and an ending I enjoyed even less.

Sapphic mermaid horror. Cool idea but a messy execution.

Great concept, terrible execution. I don’t know how we were supposed to believe any of the relationships these people had between each other. Everything was so superficial and melodramatic. Falling in love with a person you interrogated a couple of times? So unrealistic and not in a fun way I could buy into. Ending was BORING.
