The start of an amazing journey.

I will state this that I have yet to finish the whole series but as far I have read such far, I can tell you it's amazing story.

It's a story that follows a boy named Oz. If you liked Alice in wonderland, you will like this. The author is heavily inspired by that tale and it comes out amazing in this story. That being said, there will be many things that will just not make sense or be explained for a while. If that sort of thing is something you really don't like, then maybe it isn't for you. I recommend trying it though and reading through as many volumes as you can because it just keeps picking up.

Your brain is going to hurt, I won't lie. But the story has heart and even love lies in Madness.

(This review is written very weirdly sorry I just say things idk if they make sense at all.)

This is the best thing I've ever read in my entire life and I'm not saying that just because it's my special interest because I'm right and it's awesome!!!!! 104 chapters around 40 pages each is pretty short for a manga series with this much amazing storyline from what I've read. My favorite thing about reading it is you get to see MochiJun's art improve as you go on, just look at the first and last drawing of Sharon! You're constantly tested on who's views on an event is true and if that person is trustworthy or not. Flashbacks are repeated over and over and they're never the same. Pandora Hearts is written to be enjoyed when you read it the first time, and written for you to be amazed at the second! You recognize things so much earlier at the second time and it makes you understand the story even better. Pretty much every question is answered by the end. It has it's fair share of tragedy, too. About 2/3rds of the cast is dead by the end so don't get too attached to anyone. An amazing read I would recommend to practically everyone to at least try out. It explores the stages of grief, betrayal, and friendship. The resolution takes up about the last six chapters or so but is not rushed and is tied off bittersweetly. Many of the characters have been lost, but there is still a story ahead of every single one of them. (!!!!THE REST OF THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS!!!!)

My personal favorite thing while reading Pandora Hearts was Xerxes Break's interactions with others for the main reason of his past. He is the only character to successfully go back in time and change something. Under the original name of Kevin Legnard, Break was a knight for the Sinclair family. All but the daughter are killed and Break vows that he will travel to the past to save them. After doing so, he ends up twenty years in the future to the news that everyone in that family including the daughter later died in a different event. Other characters show a desire to change the past (Jack, Oswald, Leo, and Vincent) and Break is one of the people to fight against them over this. He delivers one of my favorite lines to Vincent. "It is precisely because... You keep looking to the past for salvation that you can't move on! It's time you realize it! Even if you tamper with the past, there is no future for you there!!!" This quote starts the turning point to the end of the series.

Its interesting and strange, I'll tell you that first. I love fantasy but I'm all about urban fantasy so Pandora Hearts was a little hard to grasp since it is set in its own world. Oz Vessalius is our main character, he is a 15 year old boy and its his birthday so that means the coming of age ceremony, where no one under 15 can attend, is going to happen. He's to be the successor to the house of Vessalius which happens to be one of the four main Dukedoms but being an adolescent, who is also neglected by his father, he doesn't really care about all that. Oz just wants to have fun.

Now since this is the first volume in the series there were a lot of things that I didn't quite get and left me slightly confused but I am positive will be explained further in following volumes. The things that have been revealed are certainly something that has caught my interest.

Overall the art was excellent, the characters I've met very interesting and unique. The author/artist seems to really know what they are doing with world building, plot setting and pace.

Check it out, just make sure to have volume 2 to read next right after.
