Just did not grab me, even though boys and pieces of plot, world, and characters did. But it was feeling like something I had to “get through” so I called it.

This book is beautifully written. I had just finished a mediocre book when I began this one and it was so refreshing to be reading something both clever and complex, told in a way that made reading a delight, not a chore.
The concept is so bizarre that there’s immediate suspension of disbelief. Objects as varied as Mr Potato Heads and vintage airplanes appearing in fields overnight? And they’re conjured by victims’ imaginations? But the authors make it work, make it believable, even as the situation mutates to far worse horrors.
I loved being with Adam - cold, emotionless, almost an automaton; and Rao - his exact opposite, insensitive, occasionally cruel, and uncontrollable. Neither sounds remotely appealing - Rao describes himself as a wanker - but I was completely invested in their lives, their fates.
I loved this book. I think I would love it even more on a second reading because it’s so full of details. I really, really hope these two authors collaborate on more novels. This one was a true pleasure.

This book was like a meal that's just palatable enough to consume but afterwards you just wonder how and why you managed to finish it.

There's quite a lot I could say but the ending (quality wise) pissed me off so I will sulk in silence over here.
