Hot, but so much unexplained. Maybe the series needs to be read first?

A different kind of Alpha series

Forget what you've read so far about the alpha males and women who become their mates and partners because this books throws it out the window and rewrites the rules. This is one short novella, plus teasers on the new series being writing. Of the three, I'd like to say the final book; Her Perfect Mate pairs Ivy with Landon who is special forces soldier recently brought back from Afghanistan to train with cat shifter, ivy.

If you haven’t read the exciting new series X-Ops by Paige Tyler you are in for a treat. Her Secret Agent gives us a sneak peek into the very private life of John Loughlin, the Director of the Department of Covert Ops. John is the guy standing between the EVA’s (Extra Valuable Assets, aka Shifters) that work for DCO and those who would control or kill them. Turns out the EVA’s aren’t the only ones with secrets. Her Secret Agent is another fast paced action adventure from Paige Tyler and I loved it.

I seriously love the concept behind these shifters. But I can't tell you exactly why they are different - it's fun figuring it out on your own. Cree is a shifter that has some very special skills, skills that John from the DCO (Department of Covert Operations) thinks will be nice to have. At least that's what they both say going into their first meeting.

They quickly find out that there are a whole lot of somethings running beneath the surface - including an incredible sexual attraction. But, Cree's shifter status and John's reasons for recruiting her may prevent them from figuring out if they could be anything more.

This is a very quick wham bam thank ya ma'am type of story. We have a couple really good fight scenes, a little bit of suspense (the story just wasn't long enough to really draw it out), and a really hot couple. I do wish that it had been longer - but I understand that it was a prequel to set the stage for the future books. Great start - I know I want more now!! And the last time I looked - this was a freebie on Amazon and B&N - so go give it a try!!!!

3 Solid Stars

The story has a decent flow and I didn't find any editing errors of any kind.

It definitely has me interested in the series, but.... It needed more intensity and there were several areas where that could have happened.

I know 95 pages is short, but I have read shorter that had me more connected to the main characters and the world they live in.

Bottom line⤵
I liked it but didn't love it and feel the author could have done a better job.
I will be continuing to the next book in the series before I make a final decision about the series.

I would just like to read a romantic scene where the clothes rapidly being removed are not described as "offensive" or "offending." Or, y'know, if they must be described thus, maybe offer a little backstory? Like, the bra is an "offending scrap of material" 'cuz it's itchy?

I would like to say that if the clothes had gotten a little backstory, this would've been more enjoyable...but I doubt it. I probably would've just wished that I was reading the nonsensical adventures of an itchy bra instead of the highly dramatic escapades of John and Cree. Which I mostly skimmed.

For a short story It was better than most that I've read but unfortunately i still didnt care for it. It just didnt grab me like others have. I LOVED Paiges SWAT series. Maybe I'll like the first book in this series better than this one.

btw The novella is 95 pages long but there's almost twice that in added material, which is teasers for other books in the series.

Romance between a fox shifter and her potential boss. Leaves a lot of questions which is what a novella like this is supposed to do.
