Jillian Meadows knows how to write a romance that has you swooning, drooling and giggling while kicking your feet in the air like a little girl. This may be a “cozy Christmas read” but HOT DAMN. Some of these chapters had me clutching my pearls for dear life because daddy Gavin. But honestly this story was so wholesome. It was more than just a romance, it had a story as well. Also…brother’s best friend who is a smoke show and older, need I say more?
Uh, the way this author describes the longing in his heart moved me a ridiculous amount. Well done indeed.
This book was such a sweet treat!
Gavin and Lena have know each other for quite a while and have always had a simmering attraction to one another. Unfortunately, a 10-year age gap and the fact that Lena's brother is Gavin's best friend, kept them from pursuing anything other than friendship. We do not get any flashback scenes of Gavin and Lena, which I do think would have greatly helped set up the dynamic between them, but we still get some great interactions in the present which suffice.
Gavin was a complete goner for Lena and I absolutely loved that. The longing he felt was incredibly angsty and you could really feel his inner turmoil in trying to ignore those feelings. Gavin was such a sweet guy and his relationship with Lena's family was adorable. Lena herself was spunky, but I do feel as if I did not get to know her very well. She felt very one-dimensional. Plus, she kept somewhat throwing herself and poor Gavin and that got a little annoying.
I am happy we did not have to suffer through a huge tantrum from Lena's brother after he found out about her and Gavin. Everyone seemed to handle everything maturely, even though Lena did have a mini freak out and ran away - but that was short lived.
The epilogue was downright precious and it was such a great ending to a wonderful read.
