I love this new series!! I loved Defending Chloe so much I just had to go and read the first one in the series once I was done (I missed reading Defending Allye-it's also amazing, but know each book can be read as a standalone or out of order, which I obviously did). I love these Mountain Mercenary men so much that I need the next one stat!!

Who are the Mountain Mercenaries? They are honorable men-veterans actually, dedicated to save women and children from abuse, prostitution, sex trafficking and other such evils from all around the world or even if it is in their own backyard. They are led by a Charlie's Angels-mysterious type of man-named Rex who contacts the team through voice encrypted phones and has the knowledge, contacts, and power to locate where and when most of the deals take place. The men don't question how Rex comes by his knowledge they just follow his lead and help the people break free from the terror they have fallen under.

Ronan "Ro" Cross is one of these brave men, a man who up until he met Chloe Harris, hadn't made any connections or ties to anyone in his life, but something about Chloe draws him in like no one he's ever met. Just in the few minutes he spoke to her in his garage, the vulnerability she displayed told him she needed his help, but the strength she showed also drove home that she wasn't a wilting flower. He liked both sides to her and he knew he wouldn't rest until she was safely in his arms, but that also meant the real danger was only beginning.

Chloe Harris was living a real nightmare. She went from having a great job, living in her own apartment, owning a car, paying her own bills to somehow living in fear of daily beatings by her own flesh and blood. The day her brother convinced her to move back home was the day her nightmare began. Her independence slowly stripped away until she was threatened to becoming one of his whores earning her "keep". The day she happened upon Ronan Cross in his garage was one of sheer dumb luck. She didn't give into to hope, since her brother was only bound to take it away, but when Ro shows up to and makes her want to try again it hardly seems possible that it couldn't be a dream.

Ro and Chloe are both so timid, yet so perfectly matched for one another. Ro needs a strong woman to stand by his more brutish side and Chloe needs a caring man for her vulnerable sensibilities. Together they fit and complete each others missing spots, but will they get a chance to make it work, or will evil snatch it away before they get their HEA?

Same old same old. Even the titles of these books are repetitive. The author seems to be testing herself to see how many times she can write the exact same story. Yet I keep reading them, they are almost soothing now in their predictability, like how children watch the same movie over and over. If these weren’t free on KU...

I thought this book was much better than the first book. The narration was better as well.

Ro and Chloe had good chemistry. At first, I was surprised that Chloe was so cowed by her brother, but after enduring years of psychological and physical violence along with other traumas, it became much more understandable.

There was some action, suspense, and plenty if danger. Where suspicious events occurred, the person responsible was obvious.

I did fast forward through some of the book because it seemed very repetitive. I did like one of the last chapters with Chloe and her brother.

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD - I HATE HER BROTHER SO MUCH. KARMA IS MY GIRL THO!

Again, Defending Chloe was sucha good audio! After finishing it, I was so freaking pumped for the next book.. but I don't think it's available on KU yet? Maybe it is and I'm just super blind - who knows! Once that bad boy is made available, I will get it. Especially after that epilogue!

Okay, so this book had a shit ton of mafia jazz and some backstabbing betrayal. Again, I mentioned that I hated Chloe's brother in this book because I totally did. He was batshit crazy and was a golddigging brotha. He just didn't like that his older, smarter, and probably way better sister was going to get money from dear old mom.. and he was getting jack shit.

Now he felt like he was entitled to so many things.. and I just wanted to punch him in the face. The ending was just the cherry on top to his wickedness and I was so freaking happy.

Other than all of that stuff, I loved getting to meet Ronan (again) in this book. He deserved happiness and ever since the first book ended with him meeting Chloe - I shipped the heck out of them! They were adorable and they needed each other.

Overall, I can't wait for the next book because I seriously need to dive into Morgan's book. I'm loving all of the guys, action, and drama, with each book. I need more!

Excellent follow up to the first book. I love this team of guys and their women. Susan Stoker writes strong women who just need a little assistance from a strong, but vulnerable man. The characters complement each other like yin/yang. Love this author and she hasn't disappointed me yet.

Review for Defending Chloe (Mountain Mercenaries# 2) by Susan Stoker is the second book of in this series. This is Ronan and Chloe's story and trust me when I say the end result for her brother was fitting even though it was harsh.

Chloe Harris was happy working as an accountant and loved her father and brother but when he suddenly is killed her brother takes over control of her life. It's not in a good way either making her do the books for his strip club and whorehouse as well as making her work there. But when she's dumped by the side of the road she goes to Ronan's house who immediately knows something wrong. So when he finally finds a opportunity to save her he enlists his team mates from Mountain Mercenaries. Little does Chloe know that her mother left her with a lot of money and her brother has plans for it.

Ronan Cross is former SAS British Special Ops and when he meets Chloe he knows he has to help her plus with the help of Rex their handler and his mates he's determined to find out why Chloe's brother is keeping her hostage and that he'll do whatever necessary to save her anyway he has too.
