✨I never want anyone to try and convince me that velvet skinny jeans are hot. Idc if they’re on a hot man, that image is repellant to me. This was a fine book that felt sooooo long because we follow the characters over the course of a year, which isn’t too common. So much yet not enough happens.

And imagine my surprise when I realized I was getting bamboozled by a cancer plot. I had NO IDEAAAAAAA

I had an odd feeling based on the trailer of the movie version that this was going to remind me of a John Green novel. I will say that even though this is a debut - I'm unsure what exactly the editor was thinking when some of the plot points were still in place. As someone in their early 20's - Ella being in charge of something extremely large for a potential presidential candidate didn't make sense to me. How are you keeping up while being not only in a different country but different time zone with your own obligations? So I wasn't sure how that wasn't pointed out initially. The relationship between Ella and her love interest also didn't feel believable to me. It happened way too fast for it to feel authentic. The only somewhat plot twist I didn't expect to happen was that Jamie doesn't pass at the end - he might eventually but during the time of this story - he didn't. I also wasn't a fan of how Ella's friends were written - it was almost as if Julia was told " hey you need a speck of diversity since this is a little too white" Ok - let me half ass this bumbling half South East Asian male character and give little for our only openly gay male character pining for a straight guy. Don't forget the quirky female bestie that Ella gets close with.
