I still dont know what I am going to rate this book. It is between a 4.5 - 5. I dont know that it gave me that 5 star feeling, but it may have. I really need to sit on this one for a few days before I decide. I think it was the right time for me to read this. I really really enjoyed it... Even if you took out the best and most impactful parts out of it - I still loved the story so it definitely gets a very high rating from me. I loved the characters, loved the friends/found family, loved the atmosphere and all of the fantastic emotional quotes. This book had so many parts that reminded me of Lisa - and not just the loss of her but the life of her as well. There were also a few father/daughter quotes that got me (let's be honest, they will get me EVERY time... I am daddy's little girl through and through). I also LOVED the love story. I went into it blind to the fact that it was a love story... and it got me. I adored this book. I can't wait to see the movie!!!

This book definitely gave me “Me Before You” déjà vu (Jojo Moyes), but I still really enjoyed it — although they are very similar stories. I agree with many of the critiques—particularly that the main character isn't immediately likeable. That said, she does grow and ultimately comes around as the story progresses.

The things I loved: the witty banter between the protagonist and her love interest, and the dreamy, cozy Oxford setting, and all the English literature references which added an extra layer of enjoyment and nostalgia for an English major like myself.

Now I’m counting down the days until the Netflix adaptation drops in August!

I went into this thinking it’d be fun and full of malaprops from an American living in England. I also knew there was a romance between the protagonist and her professor. Man do I feel like this was a bait-and-switch, and one that wasn’t even well executed.
Light and fun, this book is NOT. The first third of it is, and then it goes wildly off the rails. I would have been fine with the direction of the plot if the protagonist was likable enough to support it. But god, she was obnoxious, and the dialogue in this entire book had me cringinggggg.

I maybe would have enjoyed it more if I knew ahead the left turn it took? But even then, I couldn’t wait to be out of the lead’s head.
