A short and insightful look into how Disney has shaped American culture and changed the Florida landscape forever. I thought it was an interesting concept that was too short; I would have liked to read more from this author about this topic.
Carl has a vendetta against Disney which I don't share so I didn't find this book particularly interesting.
Disney makes me angry, and the loyalty to it is mystifying, so I picked this audiobook up. Poor Dugan the rhino. ☹️

Short book--expose on all the things Disney does wrong, in the author's opinion, running things in its own way while everyone else allows them to do as they wish.
Interesting to read as a counterpoint to the squeaky-clean Disney image; it's evident that the author is anti-Disney and believes that everyone born and raised in Florida holds the same opinion.
The chapter about Disney wining and dining the press was especially interesting as I was just reading a discussion about the upcoming Disney Social Media Moms conference.
Worth a read, it won't take long--book is less than 100 pages. It was written in 1998 when the first Disney cruise ship was being readied for voyages and Animal Kingdom was also new.

I read this as Wendy was embarking on a three month gig working for Disney, via the Alliance Theater, on Elton John's "Aida" musical.
Carl Hiassen does a nice job balancing humor and journalism here, as he reveals that Disney - surprise, surprise - works to control their image in a manner that might lead you to believe they are the Mouse Mafia.
"Don the mouse ears, drink the Kool-Aid" seems to be the strategy. At least Hiassen shows us the horns on the mouse ears with his trademark wit.

In this long form essay Hiaasen offers himself up as the embodiment of antipathy and loathing that many native Floridians feel towards The Mouse's empire in the sunshine state. I recommend this to anyone who has ever felt a twinge of maliciousness concerning all things Disney.
