I really should have kept track of how many times lips "twitch" in this. I swear it felt like it happened every other page. It got annoying real fast. Anyway, this book wasn't for me. Calum was an asshole and not one I can see being redeemed. I get some of it considering what we got about his past. But there was no excuse for some of his behavior. Kaia basically let people walk all over her which I can't fault her for, not really. The scenes we got with her father were incredibly disturbing.

Two stars because it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read but I didn't find it particularly good, either. I haaaaaate that I want to see where this is going. I probably won't though because I kind of regret using a gift card on this as it is.

I really liked Kaia, she has a dream and will do what needs to be done so she can become a prima ballerina while Calum deflects anyone and anything that might make him feel again so thinking an arrangement with Kaia will ensure things stay status quo... but year good luck with that! You will love or loath the characters at times as well as cheer them on or what to shake sense into them at times while you get absorbed in the story, all you want is for Kaia and Calum to get together and stay together but those around them will not make it easy and the ending good lord the countdown is on until the next book to see what happens!!!!!

What a fun, great intro into the Broken Slipper trilogy! The Patron explores the new journey Kaia goes on as she navigates the world of adulthood including the pressures of getting into an elite ballet school (her lifelong goal), working secretly as an exotic dancer to pay back her abusive father, and how much she's willing to put on the line for a love interest.

While I enjoyed seeing Kaia explore these elements of her life with Calum, the attractive billionaire/ex-ballet dancer turned stage manager, it's very clear that Kaia still has a lot of learning and growing to do. She absolutely shows her age in her decision-making skills - especially when it comes to her family - and I'm eager to see her character grow her independence and inner strength.

The story itself kept me hooked the entire time. So much so, I ended up binge reading it in one sitting because I needed to see how things progressed. Wood's writing is engaging and thrilling, and I would be keen to read anything further this author releases.
