This book is truly excellent. A real gripping thriller and honestly like nothing I've ever read or experienced before. The twists and turns!!!
I was convinced that there was something dodgy about George and was really worried he was a bad guy - he isn't.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from the same author. Literally. I was telling myself "one more chapter, one more chapter" and then I read the whole thing in one sitting.

this had a very slow start but it slowly lured me in after i got a few chapters into the story. i didn’t particularly care for many of the characters but i found the concept intriguing—a secret society that helps women get ahead in their careers that has a dark secret. i enjoyed the ride, but ultimately it was pretty predictable and i didn’t care for the end.

Wow what a rollercoaster of a read. When Cassandra’s collegue and friend Sara takes her own life her world as she knows it is turned upside down. She does not believe that Sara was the depressed and starts to question if something more sinister is going on. When her other friend mentions a female only members club that only the best of the best can join they find out that Sara’s death means there’s now an empty slot that they both want but is this exactly what it says or is something much more sinister going on and were they involved in what happened to Sara. I loved this read.

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for providing this book, with my honest review below.

The Clique was a thrill ride for me, combining the craft like vibes of a woman’s empowerment group gone wrong with a good old fashioned mystery.

Cass’s mentor and friend dies of suicide, which she finds out of character, and she is quickly sucked into trying to solve the mystery of whether Sara killed herself of was targeted by the women’s empowerment group after getting mysterious videos and photos and getting a weird feeling about the group. As she struggles to solve the mystery she tries to balance her best friend’s own feelings and being recently sexually assaulted and fired from her firm. There was a lot going on for Cass, almost all toxic, but I loved where this book took me. Not your typical thriller based on the premise, I sped through this and enjoyed every minute.

The Clique is a psychological thriller that follows Cassandra Harlow who's an overworked lawyer in a prestigious top tier law firm. Cassandra is determined to make partner and when one of her colleagues suspiciously commits suicide off their work building, Cassandra finds herself crossing paths with a high society group of women who assure her they can give her the tools to climb the corporate ladder.

This story had so much potential and it did intrigue me at the start, despite it's slow pace. I was impressed by the level of detail the author went into not only with the legal concepts, but just general office lingo and workplace dynamics.

That's the extent of the positive things I can say about this book. In my opinion, it just dragged on for far too long that I lost interest. The high society aspect was a good concept — I love reading about unhinged women, however, I didn't care about any of the characters enough to maintain interest in this alone. The author heavily relies upon stereotypes and I found the plot twists predictable. I was going to give this 3 stars, however, the ending was disappointing. Towards the end, the characters actions made no sense and contradicted the storyline. It felt like the ending was just made up as the author went.

Overall, the storyline had great prospects for a debut book, it was just let down by the execution. People that have worked in law firms or offices might get a kick out of this one!

This title will be available on 1 August 2024.

Thanks to my bestie, Meagan for buddy reading this with me
