Jody loves Tommy. Tommy loves Jody. Only there is one complication: Jody is a vampire. In this first part of the "Love Story" series we follow fledgling vampire Jody on her quest for answers and companionship in the city of San Francisco. Christopher Moore has put together a fantastic cacophony of characters in his unique and witty take on the oft overdone vampire Genre. The story is absurd yet hilarious and I would recommend it if you are looking for a light and entertaining read.

OK, so before this, I "eschewed" (he he he) vampire books. I never even read Dracula by Bram Stoker, though it's a classic.

With that said, I decided that I wanted to read all of Chris Moore's books, so I finally started his vampire series (this review is for all three books, which I finished while on vacation).

Loved them all! The storyline is about Tommy Floor, a 19 year-old aspiring writer, who arrives in San Francisco from Indiana, full of dreams and little else, including much in the way of street smarts (or even common sense). Tommy meets a 26 year-old red-headed vixen who only recently became a vampire. The problem is this: throughout the series, there are vampires that are more dangerous than the pair (with select minions throughout) have to fight to save San Francisco).

What I loved about the books:

(1) The characters are memorable, clever and fun to follow;
(2) There are some characters from other Moore books that make cameo (and not-so-cameo) appearances;
(3) The storyline is totally believable, if you ignore the whole "vampyres aren't real" thing;
(4) The descriptions of the streets of SF, the districts, the people, the places are detailed & true;
(5) The dark humor, of which there is plenty (and a bit of slapstick along with it).

The only thing I didn't like, per se, was the series ended and I wanted to know what happens next. Perhaps Chris is a burned out on the theme, but I think he's left an opening for another installment. We'll see what the future holds.

Now on to A Dirty Job ...
