“There is exquisite pleasure in subduing an insolent spirit, in making a person pre-determined to dislike, acknowledge one's superiority.”

For such a short book, I had trouble getting into it at the beginning and following the story, but as I continued, it became pretty juicy and fun.

It's Jane Austen, so I hesitate to give it less than four stars. But it just wasn't the same as her other novels! Witty, yes. Lively, yes. But the story was hard to follow as it was a series of letters between characters. It took me awhile to keep all the names straight. An entertaining read, but not Austen's best.

Probably one of the first pieces of classic literature I’ve read willingly outside of schooling (and my first piece of work from Jane Austen) It took me a while to get into it but once Frederica started to play a bigger part I got more invested. Lady Susan was AWFUL, and I wish she got a worse ending after everything she done – especially to Frederica. Honestly the main thing I took away from this was that men are fickle, dumb and unbelievably naive even back in the 1700’s… guess things never change with the male species

Edit : I’m very confused on a lot of the reviews that are saying they found this funny? I found it almost upsetting! A women going around trying to break up families for her own entertainment, and neglecting and practically mentally abusing her 15 year old daughter… what’s funnnyyyy? I’m so confused right now I feel like I missed something??
