I think a novella must be the toughest kind of book to write. How do you fit in more info than you would in a short story, but less than you would in a novel? Shadow Days definitely fell into the category of novella. At times it read a bit like promotional material, but otherwise I enjoyed delving back into the world Andrea Cremer created.

When I finished Nightshade, it took some deliberation, but I decided that I’m Team Shay. As Shadow Days is centered around Shay, it was great to learn more about him and how he came to be a part of Calla’s life. All of the descriptive passages did a nice job of showcasing Cremer’s descriptive writing style.

Shadow Days was like an appetizer that is satisfying, but is so delicious that it leaves you wanting more. I eagerly await the coming installments in Cremer’s series!

To come...
It's always interesting to read from a different charter's POV. This novella is written from Shay's point of view from when he finds out he's moving to Vale through the first few weeks he is there.
It gives a look around the inside of Rowan Estate, at the strange Paranormal activity that happens and how Shay does some investigating as to what it all might be. He doesn't come to any conclusions, however.
The final scene is him in the woods with the bear attacking him.
I have to say that the novella ends quite abruptly. And I don't really get the sense that he is terrified or even scared when the bear is attacking, or when he is investigating the strange activity in the estate.
I was actually a bit disappointed with reading this. It did not give me the same sense as the books did at all. It did not make me want to really keep turning the pages.
I also expected more of a definition of the relationship between Bosque and Shay but it just was not there.
I give this a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

So I totally enjoy it when there is something from the male protagonist's POV since these YA's have almost everything from the female's POV. It was really good to read how Shay was totally freaked out about moving and his Uncle and the mansion before the whole deal started. I am in the minority for liking Shay and how his character grew in the series. Most people love Ren, it was Ren, right?
So yeah, Shay was brave from the start. You would expect any other person to move or totally freak out but he actually went to the library and wasn't too self-absorbed to think that he could do everything on his own. He took help from all his online friends all throughout and that was pretty smart. It was actually longer than I expected it to be. But overall, I really liked it. So 3.5.

It was okay, I think I liked this book even more when I finished then when I started because I started to play the Wicked soundtrack in the background. (I read to music) Some of the songs that played to curtain parts of the book actually fit. But what I didn't like of this book was all the random name dropping. Really? Who are these people and why does it matter that I know one of his friends online is named Melissa or Kelly?
Spoiler What I wanted to know half way through was what happened to his friends from the last place he missed so much?
I also felt that this book was focused mainly about Shay and his Facebook life.
Spoiler But all the random name drop were people who are on Facebook. At times, I think it is cool to name drop from older books but I am not a fan of name dropping to popular books of the now modern times. I feel like it is pandering to the world.

It started out strong but I felt it ended on the week side of things. I know this books leads up to the first book where Shay and the hereon meet but it could still have a stronger ending.

Read the first three before you read this short book. There are some more name dropping that you will get if you read the other 3 books other wise you would be like what the heck are these names?

Pointless! That's the only word that can fully describe this book. Completely and utterly POINTLESS!! I did not understand why this book was written at all. It had no connection to the first Nightshade novel. Except for the characters, that is, but that isn't really enought to make the two books seem related. Not one of the things happening in this novella are mention in the first novel, so what's the point really? Besides making me angrier than angry! Argh! I'm frustrated to no end and mad at myself than even let myself read this!

I thought this short story was good and it just explained how Shay came to live in Vail.
