This was not as scary as I’d hoped it would be, but it was definitely creepy and still probably the scariest book I’ve read. Maybe if I had read it at night I would’ve been more scared. Either way, I really enjoyed the story and the atmosphere. I appreciated the author acknowledging the controversy and his attempt to write native characters and lore in a respectful way. This would have been 5 stars but it felt a little repetitive at times and I wish there was more build up of dread and intensity. If you want to read something that is basically creepy throughout the whole book, this is a good one. I would definitely recommend reading-especially near Halloween.

My love for the wendigo / skinwalker tale has always been immense. That is no different here. Mimicking people physically and vocally, attempting to puppet and control. This book is creepy as fuck, man. Highly recommend.

the author believes he didn't write the indigenous characters poorly, but he's wrong. They still had stereotypes and the characters were simply used as a vehicle to help the main character. They fell flat and were one-dimensional (along with a majority of the characters.) To then pat himself on the back at the end of the book for what he perceived as respectfully created characters was strange and gross.

My first Audiobook. Now I’ll be honest, the scariest bit of this book is in the first few chapters. But what really had me engrossed was Felix’s love for Fay. Finished this in a flash. Definitely recommend to folks who don’t mind a slower burn
