Wow, shocker. Another 5 star EmHen book... I fucking love her writing!
The romcom queen!!
Literally any Emily Henry book is my safe space!

“Sometimes it feels like I didn’t even exist before that. Like you invented me.”

Poppy and Alex are very different from each other, complete opposites! Yet somehow, they became the best of friends since the time they met in college. Poppy lives in NY and Alex lives in their hometown, yet their friendship never wavered, because every summer for the next decade of their lives, they would vacation somewhere together for a week... Until two summers ago, when they ruined everything and haven't spoken since.

“I would rather have one tiny sliver of him, forever, than have all of him for just a moment, and know I’d have to relinquish all of it when we were through.”

I loved the jumpinging timelines between Alex and Poppy. We got to see how their friendship started, and the longing between the both of them since they parted ways. THIS is how you do a friends-to-lovers romance! It was everything I wanted. The chemistry was obviously there from the from the beginning, from when they were in college, but as you get older, life gets in the way and your feelings and communication get blurry. Sometimes what you want/need is right in front of your face, and you don't even realize it until it's too late.

"Wherever you are, that’s where I belong. I’ll never belong anywhere like I belong with you.

This was full of wholesome, feel-good energy. It touched on a lot of personal topics, like the feeling of getting older, not knowing what you want out of life, and workplace burnout, which I totally appreciate! Emily Henry's books are always so relatable because her main characters aren't shallow and one dimensional!

... This book really speaks to me...
IYKYK!

“I’d never been that girl who’d felt entirely alone, misunderstood, and I’d always been this one: known, loved, wholly accepted by Alex Nilsen.”

I was excited to read this book because I had heard such great things about it! However it was a bit of a disappointment to me. In my opinion, it was so slow and didn't really have anything to hook me into reading more. I pushed through hoping it would pick up but it didn't really (I had to get through almost 70% of the book for them to actually kiss) and the ending was just kind of bland. I think another thing that put me off was the jumping back and forth from past and current summers. I guess I just like more of a linear narrative. On a positive note, the character development and thought process of the characters was very well done. And the writing is very easy to read. If you like friends to lovers and a slow burn romance then maybe you'll enjoy this story a bit more than I did. Just be aware that it takes a bit to actually get into the story.

If I had a nickel for every book I hated that has a movie coming out next year I’m still gonna watch, I’d have 2 nickels- which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice (Love Hypothesis & now PWMOV)

God this was awful & I didn’t enjoy anything about it. I especially hate when an fmc is pining over the mmc. Alex gave nothing to me and him having “anxiety” wasn’t developed enough to redeem him at all. I didn’t care for Poppy either. Maybe it’s because this is one of Emily’s earliest books, but I hope the movie does a better job
