This book was so cute! I LOVED how it was GOOD representation of asians, black people, imigrant- families and its also about sexism and feminism in our every day life! Its such an nice high school story and was really chill to read! Some said the main character Eliza was unlikeable but I really liked her and could understand how she was acting. I especially love that the characters are my age and how much I could relate to some things! It really made me overthink some things about life.
And guys I mean a asian dark haired ambitious cute girl who's most qualified for editor in chief of the school's newspaper who started a feminist movement because of the guy who's running against her as editor in chief, an tall dark haired japanese-american ex-baseball star, bookworm who joined the newspaper bc of her, pays attention to the details, memorizes her complicated boba order and takes pictures of her who she ends up falling for later?! What could you ask more for?! I was so upset at some scenes like when everyone laughed about feminism, Eliza's mom thinks men should do the work, earn more money and woman have to be pretty, when the school called Eliza a sl**t for having something with Len and saying she faked the whole feminism thing! But I liked how a lot got good at the end <3 I just really liked it.
Favorite characters: Eliza, Len, Winona, Serena, James
Favorite ship: Eliza×Len

Such a good book!
When Eliza is passed over for becoming her school newspapers editor and chief, Eliza writes a blog post lambasting the sexism present at her school. She never thought anyone would actually read it. When someone posts her essay on her school website, all hell breaks loose. After being forced to work with the boy who was voted as editor Len, she realizes her feelings about feminism and misogyny are more complex than she originally thought.
Eliza is a fantastic main character, sarcastic and honest. I liked seeing her arc, seeing her learn but not change into a totally new person. I liked the conversation about feminism in this book, which wasn’t preachy or after-school-special-y.
This is for anybody who likes unapologetic main characters facing real issues. I can’t recommend this enough.

Reminds me of School English Literature curriculum stories with a lot of unnecessary and kinda boring details that were often quizzed in the exam...

I picked this up as an academic rivals to lovers because I was obsessed with this trope. I’m sad I didn’t end up liking it because I really wanted to. I just didn’t find the plot very interesting and I didn’t like any characters other than Kim, Serena and James.

This was a good read! I didn’t always agree with the main character, Eliza, but I found the points that were brought up interesting and appreciated the different topics that were tackled. Eliza also learns a lot
I enjoyed the rivals to lovers romance and also felt like the author did a pretty good representation of high schoolers (which is not always the case).
I honestly don’t have many thoughts to share about this book. Nothing struck me as particularly profound or new to me, but for a beginner YA audience I could see this being more impactful.

bro ok so. the discussion questions in the end were good but the book did not seem to achieve what it set out to do (in my opinion at least)
it was disjointed, insta-lovey taking away from important conversations to be held, had a weird portrayal of feminism and even after a lot of character growth seemed to hold onto the idea of “good” and “bad” women, yes women, not just feminists.
i believe my reading update (pasted below) from beforehand still stays relevant and i truly think this book could have done something as the premise itself was well imagined.
->
what is this pacing?
and why does the author insist on placing women into
"good' and "bad" feminist categories?
the sexism and feminism is discussed at a superficial
level thus far and although i at first assumed the author
is trying to make a point by the women having a very
narrow-minded perspective on gender-equality and girl
hate, it just got worse. GIRLS CAN LIKE MAKE UP AND
BE SMART AT THE SAME TIME
