I liked this book. I really enjoyed the woman empowerment of it.

THE PLOT TWIST WAS SO PLOT TWIST-Y

Okay I had a lot of thoughts about this book so let me start by saying that I really enjoyed the premise of this book, as well as the beginning when Eliza wrote that essay.
I liked how at the end when everyone found out about Eliza and Len, the author noted how girls in that situation are treated horribly, while nothing happens to the guys and sometimes they are even congratulated.
I also loved how it opened my eyes on how many men hold higher powers than women( like how there has never been a female president in America)

But after Eliza’s essay was released online is when it started to go a little downhill for me
I was upset when Eliza was like oh I don’t care about how I look, I’m just not that type of girl, I don’t like those girls. It’s fine to not want to wear makeup or wear like different clothes, but it’s not fine to hate on others when they do it.

And there was another scene where Serena and some other girls were slut shaming another girl, and Eliza was like would I also be called a slut if they found out about me and Len? And it made me mad because feminism is all about supporting other women not bringing them down to feel better about yourself. I also hated how Eliza described the girl, that she was practically getting naked for the guys.

I also wish that Eliza and Kim actually had a talk, because all their lives Eliza has been known as the smart one and Kim as the pretty one, and I thought that was so toxic and damaging to hear as a child. So I think they should’ve had a heart to heart because I feel like hearing that all your life could have damaged their relationship.

I also think that Winona’s hatred for Serena needed to be addressed (like what was the reason for that), she hated her for no reason and they saw her as a shallow girl but I think that that just reflected Winona’s own struggle of identity from trying to differ from her dad

I think there was too much going on, and feminism and sexism is not an easily tackled concept, and although I admire how the author did it, I feel like it could’ve been done better especially by acknowledging poc women

Ok for me not my usual thing since I tend to do more fluff but was interesting nonetheless.

Kinda boring but liked the feminism in it!

This was honestly a fun, low-stakes high school story. Sure, a lot of the feminism feels very high school, but they are in high school, so it fits. Is it as deep and meaningful as it wants to be? Not really, but it gets the job done in a light-hearted way that doesn't feel too dramatic. That's all it needed to be.
