It’s good that you are “Not here to be liked” because to be honest i really did not like you. This felt superficial in so many ways that i just can’t dare try to explain. I felt so desperately annoyed with the main character that i almost gave up on the book. I hated how the MC could not just accept that maybe she is at fault for not getting the position she so hard worked for, and that being critical and cold does in fact influence the overall opinion of people who work with you, she really wanted to emphasise how better she was than the rest for not being into stereotypical “feminine things” and that did not feel feminist. This book was supposed to be a feminist one and it did not feel like it, I dare say the most feminist thing said in a book was IN FACT said by a guy “Because feminism, contrary to popular belief, isn’t about hating on guys like me. It’s about all of us working toward equality”.
I feel so sad yet it is a reality nowadays, so many books try to include hot topics such as feminism only to sell which angers me, because such topics shouldn’t be the face of capitalism, such topics matter and should not be treated superficially.

likes:
-the romance (which was so adorable)
-the asian rep
-serena hwangboo
-len dimartile
-the whole concept of dismantling a sexist patriarchy
dislikes:
-there was a lot of flaws with the whole feminist movement: winona and eliza not thinking serena was a real feminist because she was “girl-ish”, the immediate slut-shaming when people found out about eliza and len, wanting to look nice is “dressing for the male gaze”, etc.
-why was a male feminist never brought up until len wore that pin?
I mean regardless, I did really enjoy this book.

this was a quick read for me! the book explored important topics in a way that was real & relateable for young people. also loved how the romance was intertwined in it. as an asian immigrant who knows a bit of canto as well, the characters felt that much more nearer and dearer to me. would reccommend!!
