The beginning 40% or so is a lot of world building, so the pace is slower. But once you get into it and into the world and understand things better, the book picks up and goes at a good pace.

oh my fucking GOD i loved this book from the bottom of my heart SO UNDERRATED i thought i would never enjoy reading fantasy again but nicole fucking ATE
The storyline was very good, but the first 1/2 or even 3/4 of the book felt like a bit of a drag as it felt quite slow
This book was really entertaining. The missing heir, unique magic and clans, different races, trials, betrayals and plot twists.
The writing is really good and I thought the pacing worked well for this story. I do think the side characters could’ve been fleshed out a bit more as I found myself saying “who?” every time the author went back and forth between a character’s full name and nickname. I also would’ve liked a little more dialogue from them.
I thought the spice was poorly placed and the story would’ve been better without it. (I literally couldn’t stop thinking about the fact the MMC hadn’t showered in 2 years)
