I’m having Gothikana flashbacks and not in a good way.
This was just….bizarre.

4 Nevermore stars.
The first half was fantastic, minus the repetitive “I’m related to Edgar Allan Poe” every other paragraph. And the whole Regis roll debacle.
I think Ms. Snow has a food obsession lol

This book was delightfully witty books with segsual tension in spades! Lincoln Burns literally burns up the pages with his hit good looks, sarcastic humor, and sinful thoughts about Dakota Poe. Dakota wants a chance to prove she has what it takes to make it in the marketing world while working on her poetry on the side. Lincoln tests and challenges her fromntheir very first meeting over a cinnamon role.
These two were fun to read and I was kept entertained throughout the book. There is quite the buildup to their first sexy encounter that had me saying FINALLY!!!

Wishing to escape her past and her small town, Dakota Poe made the move from Dallas, North Dakota to Seattle around eight months ago. Living in her shoebox apartment and working a low paid marketing job she dreams of being able to earn more and write her own poetry. Grabbing a coffee and Regis roll on what would have been her wedding anniversary she isn't about to give it up for anyone - not even the rich, entitled jerk who follows her to buy it from her for $500.
Lincoln Burns would do anything for his war brother Wyatt, including getting into a verbal sparring match with a gorgeous stranger outside a coffee shop to attempt to keep his Regis roll craving under control. Karma comes to slap him when she appears at an interview for a marketing copywriter position at his family company. She's the best candidate but it's clear that they rub each other up the wrong way and constantly spar their words.
Needing the new wedding line to take off Lincoln is ready to pull out all the stops. Dakota provides great copy and ads but they need something more - when the head of marketing suggests that they fake an engagement and conduct photoshoots wearing the new line. Having been on the jilted side of a wedding Dakota is not keen but somehow agrees when they grow close but when things start to feel real Lincoln pulls back.

ehh
So the “lingo” in this book really got to me.. As soon as I read that she was gonna find a job that “slaps” I was like there is no way I can take this seriously. And that was in the first couple of chapters. I only finished this book to count towards my reading goal and the storyline had some potential so I wanted to see how it played out. The banter was absolutely childish between both of them and the fact that she calls him “dude” and “man” is a huge turn off for me. I skimmed so much in this book and had a hard time maintaining interest but somehow I saw it through to the end. Not her best work by far.

Nicole snow really knows how to write hot billionaire love stories and I loved the passionate banter Dakota and Lincoln had. I loved the way they fired each other up and how vulnerable they were with each other. I did find this book frustrating at times but still a good read!
Ugh. This book lost me for the last third of it. I forced myself to finish it, but I was skimming it.
I should have stopped reading at the beginning when the initial pastry conflict happened and I hated it. But I kept going.
I love books about couples falling in love, especially enemies to lovers, billionaire bosses, what you have you. But sometimes I don’t think the couple should end up together. These two shouldn’t have ended together.
