beautifully tragic

I devoured this story, the way it gripped me immediately and refused to let go only to leave me crumbled into a million pieces. Zayne & Hallie’s story will stay with me for a long time. Truly a beautifully devastating story about tragic love, our inner demons, and trying to find ourselves. I am truly speechless but cannot recommend this story enough. It deals with a lot of very tough topics so please check trigger warnings. With that said, it is the most raw & realistic portrayal of mental health, trauma and addiction I have ever read.

How do you write a review to explain how thoroughly a book picked you apart and then put you back together again? It happened repeatedly with Shattered Hearts. This is a very dark and heavy read. Check those triggers.

I had to take many breaks from reading because of how close this book hit home in several different ways. It's easily one of my favorite books of all time. It was so well written and with the perfect amount of detail. This book was raw and real and tragic in the most honest of ways. Aside from the heavier triggers, it addresses drug addiction and multiple mental illnesses but portrays them with respect and accuracy. It not only portrays drug addiction and mental illness but shows us the perspective from both sides. Those destroying themselves and those stuck watching the show. It is a truly tragic love story and begs us all to remember theirs hope as long as someone's still alive. Again, check those triggers because this book is HEAVY!

My heat rating is based on the amount of occurrence, length of scenes, and how filthy/unconventional the scenes are. This rates high and heavy at a 5/5.

Hallie Cox is a nursing student that has her fair share of vices to keep herself from drowning in her past traumas. Hallie believes that she will never truly find love-that is, until Zayne Wolfe enters her life. Zayne himself becomes Hallie's new vice, but will their love be enough to save their relationship? Hallie and Zayne are broken in their own ways, and they both leave a path of destruction in their wake. It's only a matter of time before everything is destroyed.

What I liked: This book really made me feel every emotion at one time. The author did an amazing job at giving you a wide-open view of both characters and their thought processes. Every detail of this book was accurately written. I really fell in love with these characters from the very first time they are introduced in the book. And let's not forget the spice-fantastic!

What I disliked: This is a honestly a matter of self-reflection. It is hard to see two characters fully throw themselves into a path of self destruction. I cannot wait to see where the other two books lead these characters.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. I just loved both of these characters, their stories, and their determination to find love against all odds. If you want a dark romance with a great plot, I highly recommend this book. PLEASE be sure to check all trigger warnings before you pick this up!!!

Heartbreaking

This was such a heartbreaking but all too relatable story for too many so please check trigger warnings as this is a dark series.

It was a pleasure to help Shae edit and develop the second book of this series, I wish her the best of luck with this project.

“Everything about us feels right.”

“I’ll always catch you. (...) Please catch me too, Hallie.”

“I love you, Zayne. Maybe one day the stars will align for us, after all. Take care of yourself, please. Look for me when you’re better, truly better. Look for me when you can choose me.”

I have never been is such emotional pain while reading. The author clearly poured her soul into this and it shows the raw beauty of it.

This might be the most toxic thing I’ve ever read in my life.
That being said, I think it was an incredibly accurate representation of an addict and how their minds work. Though I found the protagonists to be pretty unlikable, I thought the book was well done.

I have mixed thoughts about this book. I personally am not a fan of such prominent drug use in books, so those parts were a bit difficult for me and Hallie and Zayne’s relationship is sooo toxic but I ate it up anyway. This book had me feeling all the emotions, but most of all frustration. There were a lot of ups and downs in the book (like Hallie and Zayne) but overall I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
