This book left me somehow broken, lost, hurting, and hopeful. The tones in this book will have you holding your breath and wanting to save the MMC, you'll feel jealous and angry and hurt. You'll also want the love and excitement.

The first of three horrifically beautiful books in The Broken series. This was my second read of Shattered Hearts and I was just as obsessed with it this time as I was during the first read.
Shae Ruby really delves into mental health taboos that most people just don't want to be aware of. With that, this is a very dark series and as such, please read all TW/CW and really take inventory of where your head is at before jumping in. With that being said, Shae writes beautifully about very difficult topics and really gives a voice to issues that need to be talked about more.
I felt all the emotions while going through the lowest lows and highest highs right along with the characters.

I feel for Hallie. For Zayne. For Zayne's mother Alyssa.
It is the hardest to see someone become undone with mental illness and addiction.
I wanted to root for Zayne and Hallie's relationship, but seeing the whole basis of what their relationship was built on ... lies ... it was hard to root for them.
When you have a relationship built like that, it only leads to toxicity and heartbreak.
Shae brought real life issues into handheld form ... it so vividly showcased the challenges you face every day when you suffer in silence.
I commend Shae for bringing light to these issues, and for doing it so shattering-ly beautiful.

Wow, this book has ripped my heart out and pieced it back together. Hallie has taken everything life has thrown at her and fights back as best as she can. Zayne struggles with his Bipolar and addiction but still finds a way to love Hallie as best as he can. This book takes a lot of real life situations and faces them head on. This is a tough book with addiction and many mental health issues. I am so ready to take on book 2. Please make sure you read the triggers as it is definitely a dark book.

Exhausting in a way that the couple never comes up for air. They are truly dependent on their own addictions, each other, and the constant need to escape their past.

I've sat with this one for a bit now. The story has been stuck in my head now for about 2 weeks while I have struggled to write this review.
Now don't get me wrong it is a good book and very well written in my opinion but people definitely need to beware of the triggers. I didn't think that I had any trigger until I read this book and I found myself struggling for awhile to proceed in the book because I was relating a little too closely with the FMC. So I am sorry if this review seems vague at times and jumps around a bit.
It starts out with a girl, Hallie, that coming a very traumatic past and has her own way of dealing with that trauma. She sees the MMC, Zayne, one day at school and loves the way he looks. He was supposed to be a one night stand but he had other plans. Zayne had other plans. He is a person with a very obsessive nature and he was going to make it a point to have her permanently until one of them was destroyed the other emotionally. Zayne got his way and they both became obsessive and were unable to be without the other until the end.
In this book they talk about mental illnesses, childhood trauma (if you can get the hint on this one without me saying it), drugs, sex, obsessiveness, over dosing and so so much more.

This book truly follows the highs and lows of life, and of that addicting type of love. The dynamic between the two main characters is that of a dark romance and it takes center stage. I love how the book progresses. I read this before I dived into the ARC of Battered Souls and Im so glad I did cause otherwise, I would of been missing key elements to the characters twisted love/romance.
