As with the first book in the series, reading this book is another pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

In this sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall, Sarah and Papa have married and the family settles into life together. However, a drought threatens their life on the prairie and Sarah takes the children to her native Maine. Will the family ever get back together again?

This is a lovely book about the power of love and triumph over hardship. It is a nice continuation of the story.

Again, the between the lines (although less so in this book compared to the first) of the Sarah-Jacob love story is so adorable. Loved the themes presented in this book, and I appreciated the more lyrical add-ons of Anna’s recollections. Every character seems to stand out, and I love them all.

Read to the kids and then we watched the movie. They loved it.

2011: I read this once years ago...and then I watched the movie, you know, the one with Glenn Close and Christopher Walken. And as I was re-reading this time, I realise that every chapter in this book is a scene from the movie. So this time was a very rich reading.

2017:It took me maybe 15 minutes to read this but it's so sweet and full of deep things. I want to watch the movie again. <3

To me this sequel is just as lovely as the first book in the series. In fact I might even like it more, with its vivid descriptions of the harshness of prairie life during a drought and how it affects the Witting family and their neighbors. I especially love the part of the story that takes place in Maine. MacLachlan paints such real pictures of Sarah's aunts and brother, and of the green, cool landscape that contrasts sharply with the parched prairie.

Glenn Close's reading of the audiobook was wonderful. She makes me want to watch the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie series again!
