I read this book quickly, in one afternoon. Overall, I thought it was alright. My favorite parts were the descriptions of the music and the scenes with Frank and Peg. There were some lines throughout that I thought were lovely. Aside from that, I did think some of the characters were kind of cliche, and I for much of the book I was not convinced by the love story.

This was a sweet and fairly light novel about an evolving love story between two quirky people in the 1980s in London. I learned a lot about classical music, and enjoyed that the ending wasn’t quite as conventional as I was anticipating. The characters and story overall could have been a bit more nuanced, but it was a fun quick read!

This is a fun book to read. I usually wouldn't read this type of book, but it was a book club pick so I gave it a try and I'm glad I did. Not only were there charismatic and memorable characters, but there was fabulous music interwoven throughout the plot. The author even provides a playlist. It's also a love story, albeit a bit unbelievable at times, but sweet. I loved the ending and I highly recommend it, even if it's not your usual choice of a book.

One star on GoodReads means: "did not like it." I always start with that because it isn't a rating of the author or the book or their writing. :) I enjoyed the Harold Fry book by this author which prompted me to pick this up, but I didn't like this one. I couldn't get into the story enough to finish it.

Hurray for books about music lovers! Hurray for happy endings!

I doubt this one will stick with me for long, but I found it utterly charming.

This was a sweet story about the healing power of music and the importance of community. I really wish it came with a companion soundtrack, because the range of artists and genres Frank shares with his neighbors is incredible. I would love to visit a music shop that organizes music by feeling - if you like this classical piece, you'll also love this Led Zeppelin song.

The character development left a little to be desired. They were sweet, but one-dimensional and didn't really change. And the storytelling was too fantastical to me. It reminded me a lot of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - also a sweet story, but I definitely prefer more realistic prose.

Music and books are two of my most favorite things. So when there is a book with great characters who live and breath music, it’s a win, but this one has such heart and soul that it was even better than I expected. AND there is a Spotify list!!!
funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

I picked this up because I was still riding the wave from High Fidelity but obviously it's a very different book. It's a romance, but a bit more of a drama than I was expecting. I didn't love the setup for the ending, as it strained my suspension of disbelief, but it was a satisfying read.
