Oh. Oh wow. I went into this book with little knowledge of the author and their story telling style and oh wow was I blown away! This book checks all the marks for me and has peeked my interest in checking out the author’s other stories.

Echo of the Evercry is a fantastic Fantasy with a setting that is fully fleshed out with backstory, religion, and large world. The author dives into beautiful details of the world and paints a myriad of images to immerse one into their creation.

Characters: Main Female protagonists, wide range of personality, growth, and dynamics, engaging dialogue, relatable fears and desires. Their drives and personal story arcs make sense and fit well into the plot and with each other. 10/10

Plot: Twists and turns and when you think all the secrets have been revealed, hi, there’s more! It keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning the page rapidly, aching to know what happens next. The action is riveting and keeps you invested. The rhythm of the story is well plotted out, allowing for breaks between plot reveals and high action sequences that are just long enough to digest what happened and short enough to keep the pace of the story going.

The story has a Wheel of Time’s aes sedai vibe that I absolutely loved. (I’m sure it helps that the aes sedai are one of my favorite parts of the WoT series)

I would absolutely recommend this book if you’re looking for a fun quick Fantasy read!

Echo of the Evercry - E.J. Dawson

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book. It has been my first encounter with this author. I was blown away!

"We sometimes find ourselves in situations outside of our control, but it isn't the end, or what defines us"

I felt an instant connection to this book after reading the dedication. I believe it will grasp many young women's attention.
Dedication:
"To every girl who felt like she never belonged, and every woman who wore a mask to cope. I see you."

It appears, to me, that this might only be a standalone novel, but I would be so glad to read more novels following on this one. After finishing this book, I felt warm and happy. It was such a pleasant experience. I wouldn't change anything about it. It is perfectly magnificent!

Content warning: child abuse - This warning had me approach this book with caution and I had my guard up. It wasn't as bad as what I was expecting, though, which was a relief. Being a sensitive person, I didn't enjoy one part of the book where horses were harmed, even though it was part of the "reality" in the book. There is also a possible sexual abuse trigger... I apologize if that is a plot spoiler, but I feel readers need to be thoroughly warned. I must also add that I found the deaths to be edging on graphic. But that might just have been my sensitivity. Saying that, I still wouldn't want to change any part of this book! It is wonderful as it is.

Larissa, the main character, was so relatable and likable to me that I quickly became invested in her journey. It made the pleasure of reading so much more enjoyable because I felt as if I was part of the story.

I really enjoyed the imagery and attention to detail throughout the pages; the descriptions used by the author. I just couldn't stop reading! I took every chance I could find in my day to read a bit more. I was hooked!

There was great character development and interesting twists and turns that always kept me on my toes; something was always happening. I was taken by surprise a few times and it was so much fun!

This was such a beautiful story and I even became teary-eyed at the end of the acknowledgements: "And to every girl, teenager, and woman who felt like she didn’t belong, who wore a mask to get through the day, who was left feeling
alone. You aren’t. There are so many of us. Reach out, and we will reach back to you."

This book is comforting and wholesome.

Thank you, again.

Wow, this is an epic fantasy. An action filled adventure of high stakes with a full cast of female characters.

I loved every minute of this story.

The worldbuilding is glorious. This novel is such a unique and wholly new concept. The knights of the Fair Lady birth daughters to continue the fight to serve the Fair Lady in the endless battle against the Evercry. These girls train relentlessly and violently to become knights worthy of the Fair Lady. And what they are destined to fight is the darkness created by the use of magic. For magic leads to the Evercry. Generations of knights have fought their Evercry until one lives and one dies. Larissa is destined to become a knight. But she is also drawn to knowledge and magic. But magic, even a little of it, can corrupt. On the day of her graduation Larissa's destiny comes crashing down. A new destiny is decided. One that Larissa finds she is far more suited to. Then her missing mother sends word that she needs Larissa's help.

Determined to help her mother, Larissa must travel with the bully who nearly killed her to battle monsters, mercenaries and hidden betrayers to discover the truth about her family. And that truth might very well destroy her.

The history, the intricate worldbuilding, the magic, and the monsters are so well designed and described in this story by E.J. Dawson. This story feels epic and enormous and yet it flows effortlessly. It is thoroughly engaging. Larissa and her friends, her enemies and her teachers are so well drawn and layered with detail they feel wholly real. The depth of these characters lies in the subtle dripping of betrayals, lies, truths, secrets, love, honour, loyalty, strength, trust, hate, anger and desire as the characters learn and grow and change. What do you fight for? What will you kill for? This is a brilliant novel. Fans of high fantasy crossed with epic military fantasy will love this tale. I sure hope there is more to come.

Yet another string added to the symphony of E. J. Dawson's orchestra of written works. Echo of the Everycry is an epic fantasy that has so many good ingredients it's hard to know where to begin. The storyline is great, full of twists, turns, secrets and showcasing strong female protagonists. It certainly kept me wondering what was coming next. The worldbuilding is thorough and coloured beautifully. Small details matter and this book has plenty of them to immerse yourself into the world. The magic system is unique and the set up threaded with power and corruption - I do love a bit of political intrigue.
Larissa and her friends don't get an easy ride, the stakes are high and the enemies lining up.
This is another great read from an author who continues to delight.

I am re writing and re rating this book because of an error on my part. I am so grateful to the Author for letting me read this as an ARC and I apologise because I posted a review for this book but mixed it up with another book in my haste.

This is my voluntarily given review

From start to finish this book has action and twists. It certainly keeps you on your toes and I am happy to say that some of these twists had me going back thinking wait what did I miss, but I didnt miss anything, the story is just that good at keeping you on your toes.
This book is based on a sisterhood that reminds me of Amazonian women who only need men for fun or to help procure heirs. It takes you on a story of self discovery and friendship. Because what if the one thing you have been taught to hate all your life is the one biggest lie the Sisters have lied about, WHAT if your whole life has been a lie and those urges you have forced down aren't what everyone has made you believe?
I really enjoyed this book, I gobbled it in one sitting.

I intended to read this over the course of a few days. What I actually did is stay up all night, so I could read this in 24 hours. I was just that hooked from the start. Larissa is such an amazing MC. I swear my heart was absolutely breaking for her after she failed her trial. You know it's coming, but Dawson does such an amazing job of conveying her emotions that you can't help but feel them flow off the page and wrap around you. The imagery is vivid, and you can see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste the story unfold around you as if you were living it right alongside Larissa. This has its dark moments, but it has some truly hopeful ones too. If you enjoy dark fantasy with an amazing character arc running through them, then you'll want to drop this at the top of your TBR pile.

An interesting take on a magical world. In this world, magic can corrupt individuals, eventually turning them into Evercrys. It is the duty of the Knights of the Fair Lady to neutralize the Evercrys. The Knights are the only ones who can hear the song the Evercrys make.

Larissa's mother was the leader of the group. She left on her quest to find the Evercry that called to her over six years ago - and has not been heard from since.

Larissa has trained to be a Knight her whole life, but she doesn't like to fight and the thought of ending anyone is abhorrent to her. So she secretly turns to magic, eventually training to become a Drakkin.

Soon she's called on a quest to locate her missing mother. She and 2 Knights embark upon the adventure not knowing what they will encounter.

This book was so amazing and I was hooked right from the prologue. I highly recommend this book.

I absolutely loved this book! I had trouble putting this down when I was reading. Like Larissa’s thirst for knowledge I just wanted to learn what was going to happen next. The story was paced well and it was actually kind of refreshing to not see any romance elements to the story. The world building was done well and gave me a sense of being there. I kinda want to read it again. This is a series I’ll continue to follow.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Echo of the Evercry got me out of my reading slump. EJ's attention to *everything* (worldbuilding, characterisation, pace, dialogue balance, spelling and grammar -- all of it) is top-notch. It's not a thick book, which means you can enjoy it in fewer sittings (or just one, if you can't put it down, but remember, sleep is important!). EJ is a wonderful storyteller, and I cannot wait for the next book. Also, EJ, if you ever see this, thanks for breaking me out of a year-long reading slump! Bring on ALL THE READING. Oh, and also, the cover feels velvety and the internal pages are a lovely tactile experience, too.

So happy I got this book!

Echo of the Evercry by E.J. Dawson is a fresh spin in the world of fantasy books. The world-building and character introductions were wonderful.

The different take on magic and elements is refreshing and intriguing. Larissa’s journey to find herself and break the norms of her family for generations was relatable and interesting.

The intrigue and plot twists keep the reader riveted and excited about what will happen next. The sense of sisterhood and matriarchies being essential rings to a sense of female pride as well.

You’ll find yourself wanting to read faster and slower at the time time. I wanted to know what was going to happen next year didn’t want it to end.

Excellent.
