What was that? I am dissapointed. It was really confusing, often annoying bc there were too many things going on and you didn't get clues and the answers and big reveals were a dissapointment too ,the soultions and answers felt rushed, not smart enough. Plus,it kept going on way too long.

I think the blurb I read on this couldn’t have prepared me for what was going to happen as it took a completely different direction than I was expecting!
I liked the aspect of an unreliable narrator as it was used in a way I haven’t read before which I enjoyed. I liked the dual storylines, however I didn’t enjoy that it was a long while into the book that it became apparent why the storylines were both being told.
I also found that, while the story was being told in an engaging way, it fell a little flat once all had been revealed at the end and it didn’t quite grip me as much as it could have.
A decent read, just not my favourite

The pacing made this feel a little long but it was very compelling! For most of the first half, it's not clear how the two storylines have any relation to each other but as things start to unfold they come together and it's very hard to stop.

I have enjoyed books by Jane Corry before, so I was happy to check out her latest release The Dead Ex. The synopsis immediately grabbed me and I was expecting a fabulous thriller. This book was addictive and easy to read, but I don’t think it’s one of Jane’s best. I was a little confused by this story but it certainly clicked after a while, so it’s worth sticking with.

Vicki had epilepsy after being attacked at her work. Rather than supporting his wife, Daniel, Vicki’s husband leaves her for his mistress. One day, the police visit Vicki explaining to her that her ex husband is missing and could be dead. What Vicky doesn’t realise is that she’s prime suspect! Vicki is determined to prove her innocence, but it’s tricky when the drugs prescribed for her epilepsy cause frequent memory loss. Alongside this story line we also are introduced to Scarlet and Helen. We also hear from Scarlett’s mum Zelda. There are many characters and it’s hard to try and work out who is who.

I found the multi point of view hard to understand at the start of the story. I was struggling to figure out the connection between the characters, which may frustrate other readers. I felt quite confused throughout and just wanted some clarity, perhaps sooner than it actually arrived. I was fine with it when it became clear about the connection. It certainly had enough of an action packed plot for me to continue reading! Some of the things are a little far fetched though.

I wouldn’t say this is an amazing thriller, but it is readable with an awful male character that you’ll love to hate.

I loved the cover, I loved the concept but something just didn't work for me and I was gutted.

Vicki is an unreliable protagonist, she has epilepsy, her seizures, and medication mean at times she can't remember what happened... so how can she be sure she is innocent? From there the story is split between two characters experiences which I felt were rather disjointed as the connection between the vastly different stories was unclear for the majority of the novel.

That being said my curiosity was piked enough to see me reading until the link was revealed and I was intrigued to see what become of them both in the final chapters.

There are plenty of twists and turns throughout and this novel it had all the hallmarks of a brilliant thriller - revenge, a missing ex, an unreliable lead but its execution wasn't flawless.

Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Books UK for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

I’m ashamed to admit this was my first Jane Corry book. This book blew me away. It had so many twists and turns and normally that can throw me off but the book neatly wrapped up and I loved it! The Dead Ex is a thriller and mystery. Vicki who suffers from epilepsy and is living alone runs her own essential oils business out of her apartment. Her ex husband Daniel left her for his mistress a few years ago and she still hasn’t gotten over it. When the police show up at her door a few years later and inform her that Daniel is now missing and they think she’s harmed him. Vicki informs the police that due to her epilepsy she suffers from memory loss and she hasn’t seen Daniel in years they accuse of her lying since they have voicemails of her constantly calling him and pictures of her yelling at him. The chapters alternate between Vicki and a little girl named Scarlett who is a child being exploited by her mother to steal. When Scarlett’s mother goes to prison her story becomes a depressing circle of foster homes and not knowing who to trust. The more the story unravels we uncover a link between Vicki and Scarlett and this is when the book begins to get crazy! Soon your introduced to Helen a woman who is so desperate to get close to David and now where does she fall in with Vicki and Scarlett? Vicki is determined to prove her innocence but when she can’t remember everything she soon begins to not trust herself and when you begin to dig into everyone’s past you start to see actions have consequences! I give this book 4/5 stars and highly recommend to anyone who loves thrillers and suspense as much as me!

Whoaaaa I was left speechless after reading this. One minute I was all, “oh wow, this is so predictable,” and then Jane Corry was like, “SIKE.”

This was such an amazing, tension-filled thriller! With multiple storylines, I was never bored. I felt like the last 80ish pages were unpredictable and filled with many twists and turns.

I was all set to give up on this book as the first half was slow and I personally didn’t enjoy the child POV. I’m so glad I didn’t as the second half blew me away and I finished it in a few hours. All the characters interlink and things started to make sense, or so I thought. Then the final chapter hits you with twist after twist and I was left open mouthed with shock.
