DID NOT FINISH

Just didn’t feel like Zombie book. Plan on trying again at a different time. I have faith in Bentley Little. 😀

I am a fan of Bentley Little. I've read most of his books and I haven't disliked any of them. However, many have sort of irritated me. Little has a way of presenting a story like it's going to be something truly disturbing and psychological, and then pulling a bait-and-switch at the last minute and giving it an absurd paranormal ending. The Walking doesn't do that; it starts out paranormal and ends up paranormal. The ending fits. It isn't tacked on. I appreciate that.

Aside from that, it contains a plot element that I'm a complete sucker for (I won't say what, because it's a little bit of a spoiler, even though it's only a secret for maybe half the book) and there are a lot of characters I liked. As a matter of fact, I don't think there were any that I didn't like, which is rare; I can be awfully picky about characters.

This was my second Bentley Little book of the year-- and once again, it was an absolute spooky romp. I am not easily creeped out, but the imagery and originality of "The Walking" had my heart racing at times.

It's a zombie book-- and I put off reading it because I wasn't in the mood for zombies-- but it is VERY clever with it's storyline. It's not like other zombie stories you've heard.

Completely mediocre. Started out interestly enough but ran out of steam about halfway through.

I was wrong...this book is not about Zombies...though there are Zombies in it. It is a good tale, about revenge, and witches, and what happens when you don't trust your instincts. I was impressed enough that I might seek out some other Bentley Little tales.

And it is a bit creepy...the Zombie parts are...um, creepy. For reasons other than Zombie tales usually are. Intriguing!

To be honest, this book was a disappointment. I like Bentley Little's short stories, but maybe that's where he shines for me. What started as a very exciting premise suddenly became two back and forth storylines that just interrupted any tension I felt for the main characters. Things felt overexplained, often repeating information we just read, while also feeling half-baked by the end. Oh, and that ending... Just too easy. Too rushed. No real struggle involved. I was going to give it 3 stars but frankly, I'm too disappointed by the ending to justify three stars.

Boring. Couldn't get into it. Gave up about a third of the way thru.
