Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, Never Let Me Go, subtly augments contemporary Britain into a dystopic society with a unique population of children who have been specifically created – cloned to be exact – to become organ donors in their adult life. If it weren’t for this fact, Never Let Me Go might be mistaken as a typical story of friendship, love and jealousy set in a boarding school for students with high aptitude for art.

I knew nothing about this book before starting it, and I think that’s why I liked it so much. Gradually finding out what the story was about built up the tension, and the small clues throughout kept me interested. The end was a bit of an anti-climax but in a way it also felt realistic.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like I just didn’t get it at all. What was the point of anything that happened? What was Ishiguro trying to say? Not a fan.
