This one wasn’t as charming as the first (The Guncle was 5 stars for me!) Even still, I loved GUP’s dialogue and banter.
4.5 Stars Audio Book Review
The first book The Guncle captured my heart a few years ago and I have been dying for more from my favorite Guncle Patrick ever since! This book is truly best read as an audio book. The book is narrated by the author himself Mr. Steven Rowley. He is phenomenal with his portrayal of his characters. The audio is such a laugh out loud, heart warming, fun and just plain entertaining book.
In this book all the best characters are back, I love the relationship ship of Patrick and his niece and nephews. There is so much amazing banter, laugh out loud moments and self discovery.
Favorite quotes:
"I just mean there's nothing money can buy that beats life's free joys with the people you care about…”
This would have received 5 starts, but it’s just not quite as charming as the first book The Guncle! I would still read it over and over though!

I completely loved this book!
I read and enjoyed the first book so I had high hopes for this installment and I wasn’t disappointed.
The characters are all five years older and still interesting and complex. I absolutely love the loving family dynamics and the relationship building in this book! Love and grief are present in the lovely, flowery writing, as well as some really good puns!
I laughed and cried and I especially loved the really long, satisfying wrap up at the end. ♥️

A little more frivolous, a little less charming, but still a fun read.
I’m torn here… I wanted to love The guncle abroad as much as I loved the guncle. Sadly, I felt bored for most of the book. While I still love the quick-witted Patrick and his equally hilarious niece and nephew and their dynamic, the story was just lacking … well a story. It felt like a repeat of the first book but with a vibrant European backdrop. More reflections on self, family, healing after loss… wasn’t that what book 1 was about?
