So I read this book in Italian, because I was too anxious to await a translation. This seems to be a recurring theme in my life. I was absolutely enchanted by Ferrante's use of the language, the alliterations, the beauty of her descriptions, but this was basically what kept me reading the book. It was so hard to relate to Giovanna. I thought it would be a wonderful coming of age, but it read more like a diary and I'm sorry to say that Ferrante Fever could not save this book for me.

I thought this was good, although I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It's reasonably slow-going, more of a seductively naval-gazing internal monologue then anything really plot-driven. Like for Giovanna, my aunt and my father are also estranged from each other, so in a way that made this feel strangely personal. Several of the other reflections Giovanna makes on her parents and her relationship to them struck me deeply.

me gusta cómo escribe la autora, pero todos los personajes son horribles...a menos que alguno de mis moots de buenaslecturas.com me convenza de leer algo más de Elena Ferrante creo que voy a pasar
