Least favorite of the first 4 Dune books but still good
Somehow didn't realize until 3/4th through that I skipped the third book!
Still didn't feel lost or anything like that, but that mostly has to do with the internal series timeline.
Really enjoyed this novel. Highly philosophical and just utterly strange. Herbert is a menace when it comes to handling romance and love but you can't win them all, yeah? I'd say I enjoyed this about as much as Dune, which is probably strange for many to hear. But it's the peculiarity of it all, this vision of a future where tyranny begets true freedom, where the antagonist and the protagonist are essentially the exact same character.
A fascinating novel. Gonna go back and read Children of Dune though.

Loved this a lot and I’m sure i’ll enjoy it more if i ever reread it there is is just so much to unpack, and i didn’t like the set of characters as much as previous books, still so good

Again, the characters are basically nonexistent, but it doesn't really matter. God Emperor of Dune is a book of ideas and going beyond them, but its characters do help ground the events in individual choice.
