Alas, the execution does not live up to the vision. All the characterization, tension, and conflict is undermined by Leto's supposed infallible prescience looming over the narrative. Herbert declares the Golden Path as absolute truth, delivered via divine revelation, and offers exactly nothing in the way of showing it. Disappointing.

I think this might be my favorite Dune book so far. Once again, i don't particularly care for any singular character but the way Frank Herbert writes just sucks me in - i wanna know more!!
This is the first book where he really goes deeper into the topics of sexism and homophobia (he aims to critisize the fragile male ego imo) and, as always, he writes it in a very ambiguous way - you can't tell what the author thinks, only the individual opinions of the characters. I think it's important to note though, the text does lean more into an homophobic rectoric, which makes sense given Herbert was homophobic himself.

Was told I should at least read this far to get a wrap-up on the Dune story. What I got was 500 pages of Frank Herbert's "cucked specifically by Duncan Idaho" kink
