Lovably bizarre. Huge time jump threw me off a bit but loved it. Could nearly be read as a standalone with the following books in the series also subject to a massive time jump.

4,5/5

Well, it was not what I expected … But it’s better !
You know it by now, I love Dune’s universe, and this book is no exception. Taking place several thousands years after Children of Dune, we are following Leto II, still alive and mutated in a sort of mix between a human being and a sandworm, controlling his empire with an iron hand.

This is a very interesting book. Very different from the thirst three, but still in the same vein. I really like this one, even if, being quite dense with tons of information, it took me some time to get into it and read. A beautiful trip, that I recommend.

Lots of fun ideas to continue the story but Frank gets dragged down by some libertarian brain rot that ruins a lot of the philosophical diatribes. I think this is my least favourite of the Dune books

This was a slog. Majority of the book was philosophical reflections (as per Herbert's style) with little action or push of the plot. The weird gender-dynamics and gender-roles were strong in this part of the series, with huge hints of mysoginy and sexualisation. As a woman, I had to put down the book several times over the year because it weirded me out. Unfortunately, a female protagonist rebelling against her fate does not make a feminist classic, when 80-90% of the remaining female characters exist in the shadow of the male characters. Sadly, even the plot and "point" of the story don't justify this.
