Perfect post holiday read. I never fail to be drawn in by her characters and this story was no exception. The lack of an ending was a little bothersome but I am assuming since there is a second book in the series that was intentional.

I really enjoyed this book about a messy family at Christmas. Set from December 23 through Christmas evening, it was the perfect book to curl up with right around the holidays.
Kelley Quinn and his wife Mitzi run a bed and breakfast on Nantucket Island. Between the two of them and their combined 4 adult children, their family drama abounds as it so often does around the holiday season. I recommend this book but know that there is a sequel and everything doesn't get all tied up nearly at the end. Still worth a read.

December’s book club book was a hit! A delightful holiday read that is also the story of dysfunctional family – always a hit.
I love some Hallmark movies this season, but there’s hardly any drama in them. Everything is happily ever after. This book ends well, but not quite HEA, mostly because there are 4 more in the series. The question is do I download #2 and start right now?
Or finish my two buddy reads that are scheduled for chats this week? Probably finish the other two.

It's Elin Hilderbrand. Of course, the book is awesome.
Not poorly written, but just really unsatisfying. I realize this is part if a series, but the book seemed incomplete on its own.

I wanted more. I know we're getting more soon but the next instalment picks up a year later! There was a lot of time spent setting the scene, which was great but it felt like that came at the expense of giving us more of the plot. I loved Kevin & Isabelle's story, I cheered when Ava dropped Nathaniel, I wanted to punch Patrick in the face, and Mitzi was the least likeable character I've seen from Elin H. so far.
I was nervous that I would not like this book because of the mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed spending the holidays with the Quinn family! I am already starting the next up in the series because I have to know how everything works out for them. The ending is not a door slamming type because there is clearly more to come for this family. I am on quite the Christmas novel kick, and this gave me exactly what I wanted! It is a Christmas movie in book form, as simple as that.

How are you just gonna end a Christmas book like that
The Quinn family is about to celebrate Christmas in their family-owned Inn on Nantucket. However, this Christmas will not be the same for multiple reasons: First, the patriarch Kelley walks in on his second wife Mitzi, kissing George, a/k/a Santa Clause (an older guy has been playing Santa in their parties for many years). Second, Kelley's younger son, Bart has recently joined the Marines and is now unreachable in Afghanistan. Third, Kelley's oldest son, Patrick, appears to be heading to jail for insider trading. On top of that, Kevin, his middle son, might be secretly in love and Eva, his baby girl is breaking up with her boyfriend...Oh, and did Kelley make out with his first wife, famous news anchor Margaret? Family drama galore!!
I like Elin Hilderbrand's books - they are usually lighthearted, short and sweet. And I like the setting of them: Nantucket Island. However, her writing is beginning to annoy me. She constantly uses "she says, he says". Even when writing a back and forth dialog between two people, she'd use that multiple times, after each response. Why not use something else, at least once in a while. Something like "he replied" or "she agreed", etc?
