Ah, shit! I'm not strong enough for this shit.

John was a hypocrite, selfish, cheating, callous, unfeeling asshole and I would have never taken him back if I were Viola.

I can't believe the pain and humiliation he put his wife through. And to make everything worse, he thought he was a freaking saint and that it was Viola's fault their marriage was in shambles.

No! Just no! Hell to the no!

And that little twist in the end? That would have been the fucking end of everything. How dare he? HOW DARE HE?

I'm pissed for Viola, since she obviously didn't have the brains for that.

Well this was rage inducing. The Zero(shit stain as I call him)is one entitled, cheating, worthless piece of trash that I will never understand why the heroine still pines for him after all his cheating. I felt sorry for all those mistresses who ended up loving this shitstain too. As I say in all cheating books, I think the heroine deserves so much better but if it’s the shit stain that makes her happy, go for it, lay in the bed of your making and hope for the best.

One of the absolute worst heroes I have ever read who cheated because he wasn’t having sex with his wife for one month, one frigging month!!!! The way I was wishing for the heroine to not return after his confession so he gets a taste of his own medicine (guess I’m vindictive like that), but alas, the author was dead set on giving the shitstain a HEA

This is the most repugnant thing I've read in a really long time. The asshole is the living, breathing definition of male chauvinism and misogyny, and his randomass 'epiphany' at the end of the book doesn't even come close to making up for any of the shit he pulled right up to then.

Seriously, he spent all those fucking aggravating chapters whining and moaning about his poor, unfulfilled need to have sex every waking minute of the day, went on and on and on about how awful Viola was because omg she cried when she found out he'd had a mistress all the way upto the night before they got married, and oh how dare she use tears as a form of female guilt (whatever the fuck that means) to express her VERY APPROPRIATE EMOTIONAL RESPONSE TO A FUCKED UP THING, and god forbid she be put off sex after discovering her husband was a lying fuck because 'wifely duties' > life, amirite? And can you believe she's stayed angry for years and years and doesn't immediately jump at the opportunity to bang the fucker when he shows up out of the blue, demanding she give him sons because, again, 'wifely duties' > life, amirite?

I'm not even touching all the personal boundaries the fucker violated without a second thought, or the fact that his supposed solution to fix his marriage was to ignore everything his wife was saying about how upset she was and why she was angry to begin with, immediately followed by attempting to have sex with her, consent be damned.

That last bit is what cemented him as irredeemable to me, tbh. I don't mind possessive alpha male characters, I have no issues with the jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold trope, and I'm all for estranged couples reconciling after realising they're still in love and all that.

But I draw the line at ignoring boundaries and doing whatever the fuck you want because 'he could see the flare of desire in her eyes' or 'she shivered at his touch, clearly her body was being more honest than her.' Every single thing he said or did for 80% of the book was based on a single-minded focus to get her to have sex with him, not because he loved her or because he wanted her back in the typical romantic sense, but because he needed her to 'provide him with a legitimate heir.' And when his friend suggested he get to know his wife instead of trying to seduce her all the time, he laughed. What a prince.

Tl;dr There aren't enough public declarations of love and grand gestures in the fictional universe to make up for this prick's abhorrent personality.

(This would have gotten zero stars, if that worked as an acceptable rating. -_-)

(Also, the blurb for this book is so misleading. The lying fuck doesn't have a heart, his cousin's wife barely factors into the story, and he doesn't want to win his wife back, he just needs her to give him a son. Ugh this fucking garbage book i should have dnf'd this at chapter two.)

Not an easy romance to read. I read this when it was first published and hated it, absolutely hated it. How could the h forgive the H, I just couldn't understand. I'd probably have given this a 1 star review.

Reading this some 7 years on, this tale of a selfish man who comes to understand the consequences of his actions and the h who has to accept this less than perfect H, was at times painful and other times infuriating. Gurkhe's portrayal of a H who needs a hard kick up the a**e well, is masterful.

It may be an age thing but this time round, my interpretation of the book is so much more different and I looked deeper than just the literal word.

I found the leads insufferable and their explosive passion reminded me of people who fall in love with the drama. I never understood how Viola contributed to the state of their marriage. I feel like the summary mislead me because I expected more of a love triangle with his cousin's widow, something along the vein of Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas.

Pretty good estranged spouses story, but the heroine seemed to forgive the hero kind of randomly.
