Burn for Burn’s storyline is exactly what the synopsis says: three girls out for revenge. Only two of the girls know each other, Lillia and Kat: they used to be BFF’s. Mary lived on the island when she was younger but she went to school on the mainland.

Let’s start with the characters. Lillia was very much a passive person. She could not stick up for herself at all. Anytime someone pushed her around, or even when she started to feel dislike towards someone in her crowd, her opinion was soon changed. Kat was a bad ass and she didn’t care what anyone thought of her. And Mary… she was so strange. She is made out to be a wallflower, someone who just wants to blend in and honestly there isn’t really much to say about Mary because she wasn’t focused on enough in this book. The only one of the girls who I felt even a slight liking for was Kat – I loved her no-nonsense attitude and the fact that she should stick up for herself. The trouble with books that change between different points of view is that it often doesn’t allow for certain or all of the main characters to grow on you and that is what I found happened here.

The entire focus on the novel is revenge. I’m not sure why but I found it extremely hard to understand why the girls were doing a lot of the things to everyone. Maybe because this book is intended for younger audiences? I found the revenge parts of the book to be really… vindictive? Some of the things they do to these people are absolutely horrible – putting ectasty is someones drink? Retin-A in their sunscreen? This wasn’t the same type of “revenge” that took place when I was in high school that’s for sure. I actually felt bad for a lot of the victims, lol.

Another point which I found very strange was this sudden paranormal element? I felt it came out of nowhere or at least I wasn’t expecting it! Also… this is so reminiscent of Carrie. So much in fact that I felt it to be not that original upon finishing. The ending does have a cliffhanger but you can almost see where the story is going. I think Mary is going to be a large focus of the next book as she wasn’t focused on very much during this one. That in it self irritated me… I felt like once you found out there was something a bit different about that’s what you continued to read for and then….nothing.

Burn for Burn is an extremely easy to read novel, I finished it in a couple of hours. It is also my first time reading anything by either author. I will continue to read this series as it was a simple read and I did enjoy it. I just hope the next book is better!

First, can we talk about this cover? It fits the characters perfectly and it has that Virgin Suicides feel that strangely fits the story. It pops and matches the characters and feel of the story inside. So A+ for the cover!

BURN FOR BURN is a fast read. It's fun and relatable and had the right amount of humor, emotion, and revenge. It felt coherent for two writers (who I love) coming together to write a book.

Everyone has wished they had the right, witty, suckerpunch sting to say back to that mean girl. Or the confidence and power to make that jerk feel like you do after he has said that comment about your looks, intelligence, clothing, etc. Each of the girls--Kat, Mary, and Lillia--are different, from personalities to social statuses, but they come together to help each other seek revenge.

We get to see the story from each of their POVs. I liked seeing how each girl felt about revenge, the people they were after, and how they thought the acts would help them. We can relate to the girls and why they want revenge. They may not be likeable at all times but they are relatable, which I loved. I especially loved Kat and her tough girl exterior. She was the most realistic to me and I liked that she was strong and confident in some situations and at other times, self-conscious and unsure.

There are three people the girls are seeking revenge on. A popular mean girl, a boy who left a girl extremely emotionally scarred and another boy who the girls can't trust anymore. The first acts of revenge start off small and little juvenile. Then they up their ante and get personal. The girls quickly learn, like all stories of revenge, that there are consequences to their vengeful acts.

I knew going in that this was a contemporary/thriller novel but I didn't know that it would have supernatural aspects. At the first hint of supernatural, I wasn't sure if I'd like it. I wanted a contemporary novel and felt a little thrown off. As the story went on though, I got into it more. It oddly works in a CARRIE-esque way. I'm really interested to see where Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian take the trilogy.

BURN FOR BURN is a fun, fast guilty pleasure read. I ate the story up and will definitely be reading the rest of the trilogy. If you love Jenny Han's and Siobhan Vivian's writing, stories about revenge, and strong female characters, pick up BURN FOR BURN once it's released in September.

After hearing a multitude of good things about this series, I decided to check out what all the fuss was about. The story starts out interesting, but the plot is very slow. Throughout the book I thought the story would have benefited from more action in the present and fewer flashbacks. There is a lot of backstory for each character and it slowed down the plot a lot. It was very hard for me to go back to this book even when the revenge plot line really started to take shape. Overall I didn't feel connected to any of the girls and because their personalities were so stereotypical they were like cardboard cut outs.

The revenge itself felt out of control and over the top. These girls actually started to freak me out towards the end. Their individual thoughts about it were relatively calm, but when the three of them joined forces it became an extreme version of John Tucker Must Die with high schoolers. Just like in The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, there was a strange paranormal element that popped up when it was convenient. Honestly, this seemed to make everything too easy for the girls and didn't fit with the rest of the story.

I'll pick up the next book in the series because I already own it, but I wasn't very impressed.

I might be having a minor breakdown right now. Burn for Burn was a fantastic read, filled with juicy revenge, mysterious and emotional back-stories, and three brilliant characters. I loved all three of the mains, as well as most of the secondary characters, because they were mostly all fantastic too, in their own little way.

I am waiting to get my hands on Fire with Fire in order to see what happens...definitely had my OH MY GOSH I did not see that coming moments too.

It was nice hearing each story of the girls and see how they are all connected. It was nice to see the three- Lillia, Kat, and Mary get closer as well.

In a way I thought the other reasons of getting revenge would be a bit more extreme, as the case of Mary but I can see how Kat and Lillia's reasons are complicated too.
It will be interesting to see how everything pans out in the end.

A great introduction to the girls and how they are getting revenge!

Lillia, Kat and Mary have one thing in common... they want revenge. Lillia wants to take down Alex, one of her long-time best friends, who just so happens to be hooking up with her little sister. Mary seeks revenge on Reeve, a boy who almost ruined her life years ago. And finally Kat, who wants her ex-best friend Rennie, to get what she deserves for constantly bullying her. The three girls decide to work together to get what they want and they won't stop until all three targets are destroyed.

So this book is all about revenge... and dang.... some of the things that these girls do are CRUEL. The book is told through the three girls POV, each with a very distinct voice. I think all three characters were relateable in some way. Kat's voice is definitely strongest out of the three. She was insanely bitchy and snarky and I loved every second of it. At times her bluntness was a little much, but I appreciated her as a character for it. Mary was the shy, sweet girl who used to be bullied. I liked her as a character and the reason for her revenge plot is heartbreaking. Lillia was awesome and I loved her as a character. The protectiveness she feels towards her little sister is admirable and I loved that aspect to her character. The only big issue I had with her was that she didn't confront what happened to her that summer when it was a very big deal. She just brushed it off like it didn't mean anything to her and that really bothered me. Granted, Rennie was slightly to blame for this, which is one of the many reasons I didn't like her very much. She was the typical mean head cheerleader that is so cliché.

The writing flowed very well and the pacing was very well done. There were some twists I could not call and others that I could which led to a nice balance in the story. There was a lot of girl on girl hate, girl on boy hate, just hate in general in this book that sometimes got a little annoying, but I mean, that is what the story is about... There are some paranormal vibes that show up in the book which seemed a bit out of place, but I'm hoping that it is all explained in the 2nd book. AND THAT CLIFF HANGER THOUGH, thank god I own the whole series! The book was cliché in a lot of ways, but overall, it was fun, fast paced and thrilling all in one.

First off I need to note that I started this book two days ago on Oct 23 but added it to read back in August of 2011 so it looks like it took me that long to read it. I hate that about Goodreads! Anyway...

I don't get it. I mean the story was good, I was following it, I was enjoying it and then all of a sudden this supernatural aspect comes into play. It came out of nowhere. I don't know if they're going to pursue that or not but I definitely get the feeling little miss mary is some kind of witch or something. I also didn't love the end of the book because it was a serious cliffhanger and the next book isn't out until 2013. Annoying. I can't determine how I'll feel about the series until I can read the next one but honestly, it wasn't good enough to stick with me and I'll probably forget about it by the time it comes out.

This started off really confusing for me. There were three different narrators and a couple characters that had almost the same name. So I was incredibly puzzled for like the first 30%, then I read the blurb and finally figured out who each of the characters were.

I definitely got a couple Lara Jean vibes from Lilia, but not too many. I don't think Lara Jean could've gone along with any of this revenge stuff. Mary was pretty plain-- I don't think I have any real feelings about her except sorrow because of what Reeve did. He's a douche. But honestly, out of the three people they targeted the only one who really deserved it was Renny (?), she was heartless and just all around horrible. I really couldn't stand her character and I'm really glad I didn't have to deal with a POV about her.

Most of the revenge stuff was kinda stupid, but it was entertaining enough. The possibility of one of the characters having magical powers is way more fascinating than all of that combined. I was also intrigued by the various friendships and relationships that were all over the place. So I'll probably continue the series to see how much of a mess will be made.

Whoa, this was so good! I loved all three of the girls, and the revenge plotline was so interesting. Can't wait for the next book.
