I picked Burn for Burn up on a lazy summer day when I needed something entertaining to breeze through, and this book turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Burn for Burn is dramatic, exciting, and a whole lot of fun.

Burn for Burn gives off some strong Pretty Little Liars vibes, which is a good thing, considering Pretty Little Liars is such a fun show to watch. Both Pretty Little Liars and Burn for Burn are over-the-top, ridiculous, dramatic, and completely addicting. Just like entire seasons of Pretty Little Liars are meant to be binge-watched from the couch in a single weekend, Burn for Burn is meant to be devoured in just one day or one sitting.

Let's be real here, Burn for Burn isn't exactly a high-quality story. It's not terribly original or thought-provoking, but that's okay. I like that Burn for Burn doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Burn for Burn embraces its not-entirely-realistic high school stereotypes, its silly teenage girl antics, and its somewhat predictable storyline. Burn for Burn is a comfort read--the book you turn to when you've had a rough day and need to lose yourself in a story for a good few hours. It's the book you turn to when all you need is a story that will make you want to keep turning pages.

I didn't feel particularly connected to any of the main characters, but I actually appreciated the lack of emotional investment I felt. It made it easy for me to distance myself from the story and just watch the shenanigans ensue and the craziness unfold. Just like I'll enjoy catching the occasional episode of Pretty Little Liars and being sucked into the story without caring about something bad happening to any of them, I was able to enjoy this book without loving the characters and getting all worked up over them.

I love that Burn for Burn is about a group of girls taking matters into their own hands and kicking some ass. Sure, the pranks are a little silly and juvenile at times, but they're teenagers! I really liked reading about strong girls who decide to not only stand up for themselves but to take it to the next level and get some epic revenge on the people they aren't too fond of. I think each of the girls has a valid and interesting reason for wanting revenge, and I loved reading about the process of scheming and plotting to putting things into action to watching the results. I was always eager to see what they would do next, and while I didn't particularly like any of the characters, I was totally intrigued by their actions and curious about whether their pranks would go according to plan.

I also really like the setting of Burn for Burn. The island is very much its own world. It's secluded and set apart from mainstream society, which makes the people on the island a close-knit group. This type of dynamic always makes mysteries way more interesting, and I think the setting works really well with this story. In addition to the setting, there is a slight paranormal twist in this book that makes the story approximately eight thousand times more fascinating. I seriously just love that this book gets crazier and crazier with each turn of the page.

Overall, Burn for Burn is a fun, fast book that I couldn't put down. It entertained me and kept me hooked for a few hours, and when it was over, I found myself interested in reading the second book but not terribly concerned with the outcome. This book is not a bad book at all, but it's definitely a comfort book as opposed to a thought-provoking book. Next time you're feeling stressed or sad or upset and are looking for a story to escape into (assuming you've already finished watching the latest season of Pretty Little Liars), pick up Burn for Burn. It will suck you in from the first page, and you'll lose yourself completely in this fun and dramatic story.

I really wanted to like this book, but overall I am glad I only borrowed this from the library instead of purchasing my own copy (despite the beautiful cover). This book felt like a jumble of high school stereotypes explained through simplistic, sub-par writing. The initial revenge hook was enough to keep me engaged until the end when the plot went to hell. Specifically with Mary's character, I could not pass up the notion that this was going to end up being Carrie for the 21st century. I also did not like the final act of revenge, and the book ended prior to any negative implications were doled out to the main characters. I will not finish this series.

WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! Can't even... Review to come!

ALL SPOILERS UNDER SPOILER TAGS! :D

I read this book online, which I really hate doing but I hardly cared!! It was really, really awesome! :D

There are 3 girls in this book, all set on revenge!

Liliana... Her younger freshman sister and one of her best guy friends are hooking up... Um, what? ... Nothing can set him straight like a little dose of revenge!

Kat... She saw her kinda sorta but not really boyfriend/friend/we-hooked-up-once and one of her ex-best friend's younger sister together... In his car... In the Middle of the night... In the woods... Well, then... Also, her other ex-best friend is a bitch... Nothing to do other than become Karma herself and hand out revenge like candy!

Mary... She'd moved away, he thought he beat her, but now she is back and better than ever! He better watch his back cuz he's gonna pay. Oh, yes, he will!

These three team up and become somewhat friends to take vengeance on the ex-best-guy-friend/kind-of-boyfriend, ex-best friend and ex-frenemie-but-more-enemy-than-friend.

I actually (kinda surprisingly) really enjoyed this book! It was relatable, kind of funny and now I know where to look if someone pisses me off... JK... (no, I'm not *shakes head discretely*). The story line is quite interesting interesting however, I'll confess, the characters are absolutely cheesy, cliche, and stereotypical. However, for some reason, I hardly gave it a second thought! Weird...

Anyway, I mentioned earlier that this book was relatable... It was! For like the first half, I could relate to the 3 main characters and understand them and everything! Well, I could still understand what they did and why they did it but for when they took revenge for the other parts but I couldn't really relate you know...? I could relate MORE to the people they were taking revenge on than them themselves...

SPOILERS FROM NOW ON BUT THEY'RE IN SPOILER TAGS! :D

Lilila took revenge on Alex...
by posting his poetry all over the school (well, Kat did it but it was mostly Lilila's revenge) I can kind of relate to Alex more in this situation cuz I also write some stuff... Some are kinda personal and if they were posted all over school, I WOULD FLIP! I WOULD CRY! DIE! OF HUMILIATION! I WOULD JUST... I DON'T EVEN KNOW! So when Kat did this, I wanted to kinda slap her a little cuz WOAH, GIRL! That would KILL me! I would DIE if that happened to me!
So... ya...

What they did to Reeve
I find was quite cruel... I mean, the guy's a douche and an ass and what he did to Mary was totally mean but like... He worked so hard to get out of the island and he wanted a future for himself... And then it's all gone... I don't really workout or play sports but I really want to go to a good University and I work hard for that and if someone slipped E in my drink and that made me unable to an university, I would die... I wouldn't have known what to do with myself, I would've cried and just... IDK... So, I know what he did to Mary was awful and totally uncalled for... But I can't help but sympathize with him...

Reenie, well I don't really relate much with her... But her situation is kinda like Reeve's
Neither get what they wanted really badly
.

About the main characters, I actually really liked Kat! I loved her rebelliousness and her badass attitude! Lililla and Mary are just Meh, I don't like or hate them, I can sympathize with them and stuff and I liked Mary's innocence and Lillia was okay, too but they're just 'meh' to me.

But overall, I really liked this book! 4 stars! <3 :D

I definitely got more into this book as it went on! Plus, you can never go wrong with a cliffhanger ending...can't wait to read the sequel!

This is another one that I had sitting on my shelf since last year:( I know, I know, I must be crazy! I think sometimes I get so overwhelmed with new books coming out and second books in a series that I HAVE TO READ LIKE NOW, that some of the others get forgotten.

I devoured this book while on vacation and keep telling my daughter that she has to read it!! YES, it was that good!

I enjoyed the whole story line. Three girls that want revenge! With good reason of course:) They each have their own reason to take out revenge on certain people and the way they connect with each other is pure coincidence.

Let's meet our cast of characters, shall we?

Mary: Mary had left Jar Island due to being severely bullied by a certain boy. She is returning now to start a fresh school year       with a fresh outlook and after she had lost some weight. She can't wait to see the look on the boy's face when he realizes who she is and how beautiful she has become!

Kat: Kat used to be part of the "in-crowd" but ever since she had been shunned by the "head princess" her life has been on a downward spiral. She gets taunted and made fun of daily and she just can't take it anymore!

Lilla: Lilla is the "head princess's" sidekick. They had gone to a party one night and things had gotten a little out of hand after much consumed alcohol. She is very protective of her little sister and anyone that goes near her needs to deal with Lilla. She refuses to let her sister down, even if she doesn't realize that it's for her own good!

Three different girls with three different stories but it all leads back to one group of friends. They take them out one by one and leave the best for last! Although, all plans are not fail safe:(

My favorite character...

Mary, definitely! She is so innocent and sweet. How could anyone NOT love her? Even after everything that has happened to her, she still feels bad for the revenge that is about to be taken. She is a very complex character and I still am not sure if I really have a grasp on who she is?

The Ending...

The ending was HUGE!!!! The authors knew exactly what they were doing when they threw us that curve ball! You are really left on a cliffhanger with lives hanging in the balance and you will want NEED the next book ready and available!!!

Okay so it's not like I hated this or anything, I did love the premise of Burn for Burn but I felt that the plot took forever to get to. I know that this book is focused a lot on the characters and the building of those characters was important but I felt that some things were really necessary. I mean it took literally over a hundred pages to get anything thought of revenge into the picture. I had originally thought we would come into this book where they are ready to take their plan into action and have occasional flashbacks relating back to why they are doing this but that's not really how it played out.

The whole "let's make Mary into this new kind of Carrie White" felt really forced and kind of weird; I thought they were going to go into this whole new supernatural thing which would have been cool but doubt it will go anywhere with it.

I also felt that Lillia's back story of the summer was really lack luster. I felt that they had built it up into something even bigger than it was. While it was kind of a rape situation we didn't get much from her (besides some of the beginning of the book) of any feelings about it. I mean she was in essence raped and there was nothing there. Nothing. There should have been more of an impact on her emotionally to be honest, and I would have loved to see some more emotions out of that besides her always thinking about Rennie, Alex, or Reeve.

The whole Reeve plot line at the end seemed really forced and I don't know if I even believe this whole "power surge" thing. WAY TOO convenient.

Eye dee kay, I really wanted to love this book but there were so many little things that bugged me. Also felt they were being sort of generic and their revenge tactics as well. Would have loved maybe one long elaborate scheme rather than the ones they pulled.

I will probably read the second book just to see what they do with it but I don't have my hopes too high tbh.

So addicting. I need the next one NOW.

I stayed up until 2am reading this book to finish it.
I'll let you decide what to think.
