More of a 2.75. It had a pretty interesting premise, but petty high school revenge storyline don't really appeal to me. And then it kind of ended Carrie-esque. I'll probably be picking up the sequel, but i'm in no rush.
I really enjoyed this book! Though I'm not surprised because I'm always a fan of Jenny Han's writing. I'm glad I liked it because I wasn't sure how to feel about the book being co-written because that often turns out poorly, but I really felt like this book had one author's voice.
I also enjoyed how the book was told from the three girls' perspectives. I can't really say that I had a favorite or disliked one of them. I liked hearing all of their stories.
I'm excited to pick up the next book from the library and hopefully be able to finish it before I go back to school. I'm curious to see what will happen to Reeve and where this paranormal twist will take us.

3.5 stars
I picked up this book again because I find Jenny Han's books to be quick reads, which is exactly what I needed to get myself out of this reading slump. Besides, I haven't read the rest of the trilogy and it's been about two years since I first read this, thus I have forgotten what actually occurred.
So, onto my short review of this book.
Burn for Burn was a quick read, although the introduction was kind of slow and boring. It felt very mysterious and had a Pretty Little Liars vibe to it. The pacing was good but I did get confused with some of the time skips (which kind of happens with every Jenny Han book). My favorite character had to be Kat, my least being Lillia. Overall, this book was entertaining and it kept me turning the pages. I even had to put off some of my school work--don't act like this doesn't happen to you. I've never been disappointed by any of Jenny Han's books so I'm really hoping that the last two books will be as great as, or maybe even greater than, Burn for Burn.

This was honestly more fun to read than I anticipated. It's been very long every since I read a book with a "Mean Girls/Chick Flick" feel to it. It was very interesting to see how these characters responded to experiences that hurt them personally and deal with the consequences of their revenges. I enjoyed it a lot !!!

DAN DAN DAAAAAAN! *pause for dramatic effect.*
That probably didn't make any sense unless you read this book and know how it ends. OH WELL.
Okay, first of all i'd like to address the fact that the smell of this book kept distracting me. I want to point out that i'm not one of those people who will obsessively smell their books. That's weird. I just pet them. This book smelled amazing though. I don't know what it is. Anyway, after reading PS i still love you i was in need of more Jenny Han, so i decided to pick up this book and... it was NOTHING like Ps i still love you. (good job manuela your life's a faliture). It was definitely darker and twisted, which is not a bad thing considering my tastes.
Things i liked:
- It was a surprising read for me. I was expecting rainbows and flowers and unicorns and i got a grim and raw revenge story. I was scared that the most dreadful thing i was gonna get was a slashed tire (which actually happened at some point), but towards the end things are pretty fucked up. These girls really push their limits.
- The characterization. Although everyone in this book fits into a stereotype, i feel like there's so much more to them then the cliché they mirror. Reeve, in particular, has me very interested. I was ready to dismiss him as an asshole but then we get those flashback, back when he was a morally grey kid (lol this sounds weird) and now i can't help to question what i thought was true.
- The setting. It was completely new and original to me. I remember reading only one other book set in a similar place, which is We Were Liars, but even in that book the island was actually different, smaller, not a complex universe of its own, while here we have a proper developed "world".
- The Supernatural spin! I was SO not expecting this book to be slightly paranormal. I thought it was going to be a plain contemporary, but i liked how this aspect was very vague and mysterious, we don't get to know a whole lot about mary's "powers", which is really intriguing.
- This book was ALMOST slut shaming free. Teenagers have sex and don't make a big deal out it. FINALLY.
- THE END !!! It got really really dark.
Things i didn't like:
- How freaking stupid the characters could be. Let's just take a minute to analyze their idiocy:
Lillia doesn't make any sense. Her motives are weaker then the other girls' and she needs to do her research before going after someone that way. I mean, we all knew alex didn't hook up with baby Nadia, and even if he did, Nadia never behaved in such way that let the reader (or Lillia, for that matter) think Alex was taking advantage of her. In other words if those two ACTUALLY were hooking up, they wouldn't be doing anything wrong since it was consensual. Lillia is merely angry because her sister is lying to her. Then... why taking revenge on alex? WHY THE POOR KID !!! (also, sunburn is cruel, man.)
Alex, i had your back right there but you're a dumbass, too. How could he not have suspected that something was going on ?? He just thought that all that was happening to him was a coincidence? bad luck? Even his freaking football uniform literally changing ?? i don't get it.
Oh kat, you're not that smart yourself. It would have been obvious that SHE was the one playing tricks on alex since they were the bestest of friends and suddenly not even talking.
I don't even want to start with Mary. She's too soft. Grow a spine, girl.
See, i'm kind of criticizing them all, but the thing is... i actually love them, too. I hate them and love them at the same time, in a weird way. (Reeve, i'm looking at you)
-Another thing i couldn't quite comprehend was what role Lillia's rape plays in the story. It should have been a freaking traumatizing experience, and it looks like it really is when it happens but then... Lillia doesn't mention it (which is understandable) but she doesn't even think about it. It seems long gone the day after, which just doesn't make any sense. I hope it will emerge in the next book, and i actually think it will.
- i didn't like how they were trying so hard to impress the reader with Kat. I mean, we get it, she is supposed to be a badass. But real badasses don't go on and on about how tough they are. they just ARE. That's a shame, because Kat is actually my kind of character and i really liked her except for that thing.
So yeah, this book had its flaws but i'm definitely hooked and i want to read the sequel right away. I have a feeling i'm going to really enjoy all this drama. I love a sweet revenge story.

I didn't read the reviews and just got it out of the library after reading the "PS I Love You" series and wanted to read more by Jenny Han and didn't know what to expect. I was afraid it was going to be a girls competing for boys story at first, but happily it turned out darker and more about the complicated friendships between girls. I'm not sure where the weird powers of Mary are heading, but I'm looking forward to the next book.
