Burn for Burn is the ultimate high school read. It deals with realistic issues that can happen in school. The drama, cliques, even substance abuse was relatable and an idealistic portrayal of present day high school. The story ended rather abruptly but seeing as this is a trilogy it is understandable and it does a nice job of leaving the reader exited for the next book! Excellent collaboration Han and Vivian!

I just finished this book and all I can think is wtf just happened.

Just to start off Lillia literally got raped in the beginning and her “best friend” Rennie said it was no big deal and said lillia wanted it. Excuse me like what! I told my best friend a guy sexually assaulted me and she flipped out which is what every good friend should do not say that she wanted it and knew what was gonna happen when she went upstairs with a boy at a party.

Then to add to that they are getting petty revenge at people for shitty reasons the only one that somewhat deserves it is Reeve. But the girls revenge on him was drugging with with Ecstasy so a teacher would catch him and kick him off the football team. Um hello that is ruining every dream he has for college and a career. And freaking drugging him like I get they want revenge but they are drugging someone here. I get he is a bad person but they are ruining his whole life. And this leads to him kissing lillia even though Rennie is in love with reeve.

And to add in to all that Mary has magical powers or something because she closed a bunch of lockers all at once and then at homecoming broke every light bulb in the gym because reeve recognized her like what this book didn’t need a paranormal aspect it doesn’t make sense whatsoever and isn’t explained. The book ends with reeve in the hospital with a broken leg and possible spine fracture, Mary is losing her shit because she caused this all, and then Rennie accusing Lillia of kissing reeve back even though she pushed him away.

This book was so weird I don’t even know what just happened but I’m still reading the next book fire with fire because I want to see how much more ridiculous this can get

Okay. So this book was really just okay. I didn’t care about any of the characters and didn’t think that the plot was interesting at all. I know that this was just the first book but it felt like a build up to nothing.

3.75 ⭐ because holy shit i did not see that coming

I liked this; it was like a mixture of Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard and Carrie by Stephen King. It was very typically ‘high school’, but I like a good revenge plot. There was a kinda weird thread running through the story, which I felt was totally unnecessary and didn’t really add to the story in any way, but overall I really enjoyed it! I realise that the unnecessary plot point probably sets it up for the next two books, but I just think the book would have been as good without it. Three very distinctive narrative voices but all equally as entertaining. Overall, I thought it was good but I probably won’t read the next two.
Umming and ahhing about age rating but think I’ll go 13+ for sexual references to be safe.

This review is going to be even simpler than I normally do reviews, I am simply going to say the idea, the concept, the characters, it was all well handled but I had a bit of trouble with 2 things.

1- The 3 points of view, I thought with just one would've been enough...
2- The ending left me hanging and not in a good "oooh, what's gonna happen" kind of way but in a "wait what? is my book missing pages?" kind of way....

Also, SMALL LITTLE TINY DETAIL that left me feeling kind of weird was the supernatural feel the author tried to force into the book. It felt like the author finished the book & then the publishers were like: "hey, so, yeah we'll buy it but you have to make it more spooky" & so she came back & added 3 extra scenes where one of our MCs simply THINKS & FEELS she's responsible for a little wind & a clumsy cheerleader, oh and & shortcut in the electricity. Which, c'mon, weirder things have happened to me & you don't have me thinking I'm physic, do you? NO.
So yeah, paranormal stuff... so not my thing if you don't give me at least a hint of an explanation in the end...

That's it. The book was great, I really enjoyed it, but it was flawed.

I was very excited when this book showed up on my doorstep because I adored Jenny Han's Summer series. I had also just finished reading The List by Siobhan Vivian and quite enjoyed that so I had high hopes for this book. I have to admit that while I did really enjoy reading this book, I was a little disappointed to find out at the end, by a very big cliffhanger, that this book was part of a series. I will continue to read this series because it was quite an intriguing plot.

The book jumps point of views from Lillia, Kat and Mary. Each of the girls are looking to get revenge on someone and they start meeting secretly to plan this revenge. I really liked how each girl was from a different clique in high school yet they come together to get revenge. I have to admit though at times this book was a little far fetched. While girls can get a little catty, I find it hard to believe that they would go to such lengths to get even with people. Reading this reminded me of being back in high school, worrying about things that seem trivial now. That is one thing I think these authors got right, I think that at that age there are always insecurities and they can really make us question what is going on around us. My heart broke for Mary, who was bullied for being a bigger girl. She is the one character that I really looked forward to reading about. I kept picturing her and her struggles and it evoked a lot of emotions.

I really liked the character development in this book. Each character seems to be going through their own issues and through their journey they start to really grow. I think that sometimes they do get a little outlandish and I don't necessarily agree with half the choices they make in regards to their revenge but I did end up really liking each of the main characters. I also like the cast of secondary characters in this book. Some of them I felt were misunderstood while others I wanted to strangle.

Overall, I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars because while I really liked the characters and most of the plot, I really disliked the cliffhanger at the end. I also didn't like how they introduced a supernatural element to the book. I found that it could have been done well without the supernatural element. I will continue to read the series and I am hoping that some things are explained a little further in the next installment of the story.

**3.5/5**
This was fun but I didn't LOOOVE it

2.5

So many American high school clichés,the 3 main girls' narration often sounded the same and I'm not really a fan of co authored books where it feels like they took a chapter each BUT there was enough of a hook towards the end to convince me to give book #2 a go
